Sep 6, 2012 - Peggy's Cove to Lunenburg
Day 25, Sept. 6, 2012, Peggy’s Cove to Lunenburg. (7 photos) Left Halifax in heavy cloud cover. Storms in Duluth are No’easters. Along the Nova Scotia coast they are So’westers. Wednesday’s (the 24th) was a big one. First stop Peggy’s Cove, a must-see on tourist itineraries. Questioned if it would be different from the North Shore; it was. Scenic and rugged, with a sense of isolation - except to the ten to fifteen tour busses from Halifax - a cruise ship(s) was in. Some even had hired taxies. While the entire South Shore can be traversed...

Aug 22, 2012 - Lighthouses, clear sparkly water, and shorelines, oh my!
The pictures pretty much speak for themselves today! These are just a few of what we took. Beautiful lighthouse and sparkly sea water are much like mountain views: pictures just don't do them justice, and one (me) can take many many pictures! The sea breezes and the size of the granite rocks and the gulls laughing and the blueness of the sky just don't show up in my little Canon camera. Our friends Jim and Sandy from Poplar Bluff had mentioned to us not to miss the stone tribute to the SwissAir Flight 111 that crashed in 1998 with no...

Aug 8, 2012 - The Most Photographed Place In The World
First of all, Happy Birthday to my sister, Tori. Think she's about the catch up with me in age! LOL! Hope you had a great day, Sis! Sherry met us and we headed south of Halifax to Peggy's Cove. It is supposed to be the most photographed place in the world. I must say photos don't do it justice. Breath taking. The light house and ocean with waves hitting along the rocky shore! It is not just a tourist trap, but still a active fishing village. With the beautiful and famous Peggy's Point Lighthouse built in 1915. You'll notice the pictures...

Jul 23, 2012 - Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia
Departing St. John for Nova Scotia on July 17 we did not have an overnight destination. We weren’t due at By the Bay B&B near Peggy’s Cove until the following day. This was unusual for us since I am a man of advanced reservations. I don’t like to be caught driving late at night looking for lodging or ending up in an undesirable venue. Once, years ago, I remember driving virtually all night in Oregon without finding a vacancy. We were headed to Windsor, the birthplace of ice hockey and a small museum commemorating the event. I figured we...

Jul 11, 2012 - Peggy's Cove
The downside to being in a large country with so many wonderful places to see and things to do is choosing how to spend your time. After collecting about ten pounds of brochures, maps and tour booklets, I found myself becoming a victim of “analysis paralysis” ~ by the time I figured out where I wanted to go on any given day, the day was half over. Nova Scotia has six distinct geographical regions, each with their own unique qualities. So my new approach is to select a region and spend as much time as possible exploring it on my off days. If...

Jul 9, 2012 - Peggy's Cove
We intended to spend the day at Halifax, since it is the largest city in Nova Scotia, but we all drove downtown and couldn’t find a place to park. So we decided to go on into Peggy’s Cove. I’m sure glad we did! Peggy’s Cove was absolutely gorgeous. It’s like no other terrain I’ve ever seen – large glacier rocks, clear Atlantic water and the most photographed lighthouse in North America. You can see by the pictures how beautiful it is. We had lunch there (clam bisque) and reluctantly left for The Ovens Campground in Lunenburg.

Sep 29, 2011 - Peggy's Cove
We were to early to have tea at Rita MacNeil’s Tea House but I took a picture anyway. Arrived at Wayside RV near Peggy’s Cove mid afternoon, we are staying for two nights. On the way to Peggy’s Cove we stopped at the monument in memory of the people who lost their lives when Swissair Flight 111 crashed into St. Margaret’s Bay in 1998. Memorial was nicely carved out of the natural granite, so was very serene and peaceful. The landscape in this area surprised me, we drove out of forest and vegetation into huge rounded granite rocks with...

Sep 5, 2011 - Peggy’s Cove Nova Scotia Canada
We ventured to Peggy's Cove, a place of great rugged beauty, hewn by the forces of glaciers over 10,000 years ago. The lighthouse dominates the landscape. Peggy's Cove is a tiny fishing village. We met Mr. Crookes, 75, who has been married to his wife for 52 years as of today. His family has been in Peggy's Cove for six generations. The rugged nature of the site really is beautiful and is awe inspiring. In the Village Finnish artist and sculptor William deGarthe carved a memorial to the courage of local fishermen. The sculpture covers a 30...

Aug 17, 2011 - Peggy's Cove, NS
Peggy's Cove is a rugged fishing village of about 150 people. It's lighthouse is perched on top of huge granite rocks worn smooth by the pounding waves. There are tiny fishing shacks and boats bobbing in the harbor. The name Peggy's Cove comes with two versions of the sole survivor of a schooner that sank near the cove in 1800 - one saying she was a young woman and another saying she was a little girl too young to remember her name and thus given the name Peggy. But both versions say the young survivor married a resident and became known as...

Aug 12, 2011 - Peggy's Cove
We decided to drive the Lighthouse Drive over to see Peggy’s Cove while we were staying near Halifax. We enjoyed the views of St. Margaret’s Bay and meandered the coast until we reached Whaleback, NS. This area was named for the huge boulders that were worn smooth by glaciers into the shape of Whale’s Backs. Here there is a monument to the rescuers (residents) who quickly responded to the Swiss Air Flight 111 that crashed in the bay on 9/2/98. There is a 2nd memorial to those who perished. There is another monument across the bay that lines...

Jul 1, 2011 - Peggy's Cove, Novia Scotia, Canada
First day in Peggy's Cove we didn't do anything. The next day we went into the town and walked around enjoying the sights. Then we had lunch at the coveand finished up looking around. There was a light house here and lots of smooth granite rocks to climb. It was Canada Day so there was a big celebration going on including a band playing East Canada Music. It was sort of like Folk Music. Then we drove up the coast a piece and saw some more. In the evening the owner of the rv park was throwing a party and he included us on the caravan. The...
