Sep 21, 2019 - Halifax Nova Scotia
Today we tried a double decker bus tour with Henry as our guide and another excellent one. Halifax is a lovely city with beautiful architecture and well-maintained parks. The Halifax Public Gardens are a Victoria era public gardens formally established in 1867 and encompassing 16 acres. The landscaping style is Victorian formal. In addition to statues and extensive flower beds, there are three fountains, two stone bridges, three ponds (one large and two small), and a small concession building (located in the original Horticultural Hall)....

Sep 20, 2019 - Sydney Nova Scotia
With no tour on the day’s schedule, we were lounging about a bit when we heard all this banging and clanging outside the balcony. The crew was having a life boat drill and had lowered several life boats. We watched them for quite a while. Then we got off the ship and walked to another fantastic restaurant, the Governor’s Pub complete with music and customers dancing. It has turned out to be quite warm in Sydney. This Sydney Merchant Mariners Memorial tells the heroic story of the sailors on merchant ships carrying equipment and supplies to...

Sep 6, 2019 - Peggys Cove, Halls Harbor, Truro Tidal Bore
Well we made it back by ferry to Nova Scotia, drove for about 5 hours to the South Shore, and settled in for a couple of days. Our first stop was Peggy's Cove. This is said to be the most photographed spot in Canada and I can see why. It remains an active small fishing harbor but attracts tons of tourists and it is a beautiful site. Next we traveled over to Halls Harbor. I anticipated it being a town, but to my surprise, it is a small harbor that has about 6 commercial fishing boats and a few recreational boats. There are two tourists shops...

Aug 24, 2019 - Hopewell Rocks
Phyllis and Joanne and Alvin and I drove out to Hopewell Rocks. Managed to be there during low tide and spent about 2 hours hanging on the beach. Had lunch at the restaurant there. After lunch Joanne took us on a scenic drive along the coast. Drove through Alma and bought a freshly cooked 3.5 lb lobster for supper. Then carried on to the Fundy National Park and Wolfe's covered bridge. It was low tide when we were at the bridge and so were able to see the Atlantic salmon swimming up stream. Didn't get back until 8:30, so had a late supper of...

Aug 23, 2019 - Ceilidh Trail
We spent a couple of days traveling parts of the Ceilidh Trail. This section of Cape Breton Island is the Gaelic, Scottish section of the island. The Scottish first settled hear in the early 1700's. Basically they were starving to death in Scotland so they set out here, not knowing what to expect. The temperature and climate are similar to Scotland, but the the land is totally different. They had a lot of hard days, but ended up very successful. Our first stop was at Inverness Beach where we spent a couple of hours searching for Sea Glass....

Aug 22, 2019 - Lunenburg, Nova Scotia
Had the truck serviced at Steel Chevrolet in Dartmouth. While we were waiting we walked to the mall across the street and checked out Atlantic Fabrics and Crafts (similar store to Fabricland but more) and Giant Tiger. Walked back to the dealership and had lunch at the cafeteria at the dealership. By the time we finished lunch the truck was ready. After lunch we drove back towards the south coast of Nova Scotia. Drove through pretty little communities like Chester and Mahone Bay, as far as Lunenburg. Had supper on the waterfront in...

Aug 21, 2019 - Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia
Drove from Baddeck to Peggy's Cove, Nova Scotia. Arrived at the Wayside RV Park near Peggy's Cove. Drove down to Swissair Flight 111 Memorial Site. The Swissair flight crashed off the coast of Peggy's Cove on Sept. 2, 1998. A lot of the debris washed up on the shore near Peggy's Cove. Drove over to lighthouse at Peggy's cove and had supped at the Sou Wester restaurant there. Ate here last year when we were on the bus tour. Spent time climbing on the rocks.

Aug 20, 2019 - Cabot Trail on Cape Breton Island
We are all set up for about 4 days on Cape Breton Island. Today we drove the Cabot Trail, which is one of the major highlights of Nova Scotia. The trail gets its name from John Cabot, an Italian explorer who discovered the area in 1497 on mission from England's King Henry VII. The trail is about 185 miles of coastal road that is so special. You drive up and down mountain passes and along the coast with beautiful scenery around every turn. It took us about 8 hours to make the journey. At the north end of the trail is the Cape Breton...

Aug 19, 2019 - Baddeck NS Alexander Graham Bell Museum
It was a long day including a drive to the Ferry, Ferry Ride and a drive to Baddeck NS but we got here at about 2:0 p.m. We decided to go to the Welcome Center at Baddeck to learn about the local sites and stumbled across the Alexander Graham Bell National Historical Site. It was a wonderful experience and we learned so much about Bell that we were never aware of. I know some of you like "factoids" and some don't. For those who don't you can stop reading now and wait for my next post. For those of you who enjoy a few facts, keep...

Aug 17, 2019 - Baddeck, Cape Breton
Aug. 17,2019 - Adventures East RV Park, Baddeck, BC. Drove from Pictou, Nova Scotia to Baddeck, Cape Breton. Real fiasco when we got to park. Talked to the owner when I made reservations and he said he had a really nice pull through site for us. When we arrived, we found out that the park had no pull through sites and we would not fit into the site he was going to put us in. Long story short - we wound up in a seasonal site that was empty for the night, that we barely fit into. The people in the park were very friendly! Our neighbors...

Aug 16, 2019 - Harbour Lite, Pictou, Nova Scotia
Drove from Waterford, PEI to Pictou, NS. Stopped at the information at the border of Nova Scotia. Had stopped here on the bus trip last year. Took the scenic route from NS border to Pictou. Road was slow and winding but pretty good in most places. The rv park is on right on the water - nice view and we walked down to a nice beach and I got my fee wet. Had salad and chili and salad for summer. The owner of the Harbour Lite Rv park was very friendly and accomodating and gave us ice cream treats when we arrived.

Jul 24, 2019 - Pictou, Nova Scotia
Ross and Marge left Moncton around 0900 and headed for the Harbour Light RV Park. They arrived around 1300 along with a bunch of "T" shirts and hats purchased at the Nova Scotia Welcome Center for their neighbors who are keeping an eye on the house as well as moving the garbage cans to the street and back every week. One more motorhome problem occurred on the trip from Moncton to Pictou. Ross decided to take the bypass for the portion of the highway in Nova Scotia that is a toll road. (He hates paying tolls) Ross turned on to the off ramp...
