Sep 10, 2012 - Day 57 - Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Rained all night, at times quite heavy and windy. No plans for today except housekeeping and laundry to get ready for Mel and Wendy to join us in Baddeck on Wednesday. Got all our chores done, still raining, and went out for Chinese food for supper. Now watching James Bond Quantum for Solace and getting journal caught up. Still raining and wind is picking up again.

Sep 9, 2012 - Day 56 - Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

A quiet day waiting for Tropical Storm Leslie to arrive. We decided to check out the shopping center we could see from the park surrounding the campsite. The back of some of the stores were across the highway from the park. We checked it out but took 6 km by car to get there, from freeway to freeway to freeway. It was called Dartmouth Crossing and is much like South Edmonton Common, lots of stores but need a car to get around to all of them.

Sep 8, 2012 - Day 55 - Dartmouth area

No rain this morning so we decided to check the south shore area as the local news is talking about high surf from the approaching storm. We drive down to Lawrencetown Beach (yes Lawrencetown is where the Pick's live in the Annapolis Valley, many duplicate names around). On one beach we found a half dozen kite surfers waiting out the light winds til they picked up again, apparently the morning wind was great. Further down the shore there were surfers tackling the high than normal surf and crowds of people out to watch. We saw surfers,...

Sep 7, 2012 - Day 54 - To Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Garry went into town first thing this morning and found a bolt to fix the slide. He is getting concerned so wants to head back to Fraserway RV to get it checked out. So back we go, it is only an hour and we were planning to go there before Cape Breton anyway. We get to Fraserway and make an appointment for Tuesday for an inspection and adjustment. We went back to Shubie Campground and booked in for 4 nights, I am looking forward to staying put for a while. We are also keeping an eye on the weather as Tropical Storm Leslie is headed our way.

Jul 13, 2010 - Last Full Day

Had a hot tub and a great rest at the Nest! Up early this morning for breakfast at 8am. Met a young gal from the UK who is a novelist. She is here with her daughter from Blenheim in New Zealand. She is researching her next novel about a young teenage girl who gets uprooted from her home in England when her parents move to Nova Scotia. After breakfast Dianne and I went for a 90 minute kayak paddle on the lake. Water was calm and the loons were out. Had a relaxing paddle. Came back and did a suitcase packing/weigh-in….looks good so far....

Jul 12, 2010 - The Eastern Shore

Had a good night sleep in Port Hawkesbury and a good thing too as my back was killing me…too much time in the car I think. However by morning I had recovered. We had breakfast with 2 young girls who were working in the area for the University, setting up courses for the fall. The one girl could have been Jen Quibal’s twin, in every way, looks, mannerisms, etc. It was uncanny. We left about 9:30 and the rain soon started, just as hard as yesterday at times and the wipers got another workout. It would start and stop all day. We were driving...

Sep 25, 2008 - Shubenacadie Canal

A once vital link between Halifax Harbour and the Bay of Fundy - Thursday, September 25 Tomorrow we have an appointment to have the RV serviced at a Ford dealer in Halifax, so today we just laid low and never started the engine. It’s good to have some down time. The campground we’re in is called ‘Shubie’. It’s located in Dartmouth, and it’s surrounded by one of Nova Scotia’s historic parks. The park is a large one, and it’s devoted to the protection and preservation of an historic endeavor known as the Shubenacadie Canal. Madolyn...

Sep 16, 2007 - Parrsboro to Dartmouth

Since this was our last morning here, we decided to breakfast at the Harbourview Restaurant - our favourite one here...well, the only one we've tried really. Who could resist the view of the harbour? It was low tide again, making yesterday's view of the high tide seem an unreal memory. Mike insisted all the excess rain the day before was really responsible for the excessive water. We were on our way to a table when we were greeted in a very friendly manner by a gentleman who had just said good-bye to someone else. He was a bit younger than...

Sep 13, 2007 - Port Dufferin to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia

Another glorious, sunny day. We could begin to get used to this! We left Port Dufferin and followed the shoreline all the way to Halifax, a trip of about 130 km, and made plenty of stops along the way. At Sheet Harbour we took a stroll down a boardwalk trail that skirted the river water falls. At Jeddor Oyster Ponds we explored the Fisherman's Life museum, a restored family home built in the late 1800's. The complete family history was related by the interpreter including the lifes of the 12 childeren raised in the tiny house, several of...

Jul 19, 2007 - Dartmouth/Halifax

Why the hell would anyone go to Dartmouth???? Because it's where the Trailer Park Boys film their show of course! Unfortunately for us the set was shut up for the summer as we heard that the boys were out of the country at the moment. But we were able to sneak a few peaks at some of the set through the fence. Luckily for us Bubbles has a bar in Halifax so we made sure to stop by and check it out. He has lots of cool stuff in the bar, including his Green Bastard costume & of course his shed! There are tonnes of framed magazine covers etc....
