A free day to see Gros Morne National Park! We slept a little later than normal then decided we would hike the Green Gardens trail before heading north to take a boat tour of Western Brook Pond. From what I have found on the internet, these are the two best things to do in the park. The ~ 45 minute drive south towards Trout River from the campground was beautiful. We found the trail head with no problems and took the last parking space. The first 1/2 mile of the 5.5 mile roundtrip trail was at a slight incline, the next 1.5 mile was a steep...

Sep 14, 2008 - Trout River Pond Boat Tour

We had a quiet day yesterday, but today we drove one hour North to Trout River on the South side of Gros Morne National Park. We followed the beautiful Bonne Bay on the way. Trout River is a little bit of a town and the main draw is the 2.5 hour boat tour on nearby Trout River Pond. Trout River Pond is really two ponds, connected by ‘the Narrows’ where our boat barely made it through. To call these bodies of water ponds is a little misleading as they are quite large (15 sq. km.) and very deep. The larger pond is more than 100 meters deep!...

Aug 9, 2008 - Trout Pond time travel

A boat tour unique in all the world - Saturday, August 9 We got up to another quiet campground. This Provincial Park campground is laid out in the woods with a lot of trees between the sites, and there is a real feeling of privacy and solitude here. At 8:00 we broke that solitude and started our generator to recharge our batteries, but the spaces are far enough apart that the noise was not obtrusive to our neighbors. By 9:00 we were ready to leave and we got back on Highway 1 and headed north. Out destination today is Gros Morne National...
