Running low on groceries we decided to head into Clarenville via all the back roads we could find! Sometimes these sojourns result in wonderful surprises with charming villages and seaside roads……….others not so much. Burgoynes Cove, at the tip of this peninsula, is one of those “not so much” places. Back on the highway we stop at the visitors centre where a scenic drive out to Southport was recommended. Jun 26, 2017 - the things you learn when you travel

Trinity bay was our first stop on the Bonavista Peninsula and it turned out to be a delightful town. The community has done a wonderful job of restoring buildings with historical accuracy and educating the public with many placards describing life in the 1800’s. One gift store owner we spoke to grew up in town and she proudly spoke of her great grandmother, who was the town mid-wife in the late 1800’s. This lady had moved away in the early 70’s for work and finally decided that Trinity is where she belonged. She described moving back home...

Jun 25, 2017 - no turning on a dime for us!

Our night spent outside the Gambo public library was dry and warm in the trailer while a NFLD storm raged. Thunder, lightning, rain, winds……the whole enchilada. BUT the morning dawned clear with blue skies all around and substantially warmer than the last 4 days had been – 26 degree high today so a big improvement from the high of 8 degrees on 23 June!!!
