Jul 30, 2010 - A New Province!

Today was a pretty uneventful day, other then right off the bat Melanie, Marilyn's name for the GPS, tried to send us on a ferry that hadn't been in operation for over 20 years! We were soon back on the right road and crossing into our 7th province, New Brunswick, at the town of Campbellton. A stop at the info centre gave us maps and camping info, and directions to hit the highway to Moncton. We decided to skip the scenic drive, we had crossed over into the Atlantic Time Zone and had lost an hour, and headed out on the direct route to...

Jul 2, 2010 - New Brunswick Bonjour

Crossed over to Canada this morning and back to the land of Kilometers, litres and Timmie's. Finally got asked the hard questions at the border and had to pay duty on my smokes and alcohol as we had crossed 3 times in last 2 days, worked out OK but as we all know tell the truth to the questions and you will be treated OK. Weather nice in day time but it was like 8C last nite so the extra cover is staying on bed for now. Seems funny tho seeing the bilingual signs and speed limits after 3 months in the US. Off to PEI and friends tomorrow to...

Jun 23, 2010 - Fundy National Park

The last few days we have been enjoying the Fundy Bay and Fundy National Park area on the southern coast of New Brunswick. Monday, we drove from Fredericton, NB to the Fundy Bay coast at the National Park near Alma, NB. We had rain most of the way, but we only found fog as we checked into the campground in the afternoon. As there was a geocache on a hike, we drove out to Wolfe Pointe. As we drove out to the point, the sun broke out and we thought it would be a great hike of about 4.5 km. Luckily, we left with our rain jackets in the...

May 22, 2010 - Hopewell Rocks, NB

Drove to Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park – got there before 9:00 opening, so admission was free. Walked to all the rocks – tide was just going down. Drove to Moncton, NB. Found WIFI on Main Street, but too noisey. Linda bought provisions at farmer’s market and at Superstore. Notices cooked lobster for $5.99 / lb, got two plus butter and cracker. Parked by Chateau Moncton to eat lobster, watch bore tide, and use WIFI. Drove to Amherst, NS and camped at Loch Lomond RV Park ($31, good wifi). Trip Miles 842

Sep 29, 2009 - Rainy Moncton, NB

September 29 – Tuesday Dave & Sharron and Norm & Marian left this morning for Saint John. Gary & Elaine stayed in Moncton with Shaun & Dianne – Shaun’s back is very painful, making it difficult to move so driving is not an option for him today. Gary took his truck this morning for an oil change. This afternoon we took Shaun to Emergency at the Moncton hospital to see a doctor. After a 21/4 hour wait, he was seen – diagnosed with a strained muscle and given a prescription for analgesics/muscle relaxant. It was cloudy all day, but this...

Sep 28, 2009 - Good bye to Nova Scotia

September 28 - Monday It was a rainy, windy morning as we set out from Upper Sackville, the rain coming down quite heavy at times. Shaun twisted and hurt his back this morning packing up in the rain so we took the drive a little slower. Driving through Stewiacke, said to be halfway between the Equator and the North Pole, we saw the Giant Mastodon close to the highway. The rain did let up but it was foggy at the toll booth. We took a short side trip to Springhill, NS where Sharron, Dianne & Elaine toured the Anne Murray Centre. Anne Murray...

Sep 25, 2009 - Tides and Magnets in New Brunswick

From Quebec City, we drove around the Gaspe Peninsula of Quebec, with the highlight of this rainy drive being the big rock at Pearce (see photos). From here it was down through New Brunswick to the city of Moncton where we experienced the main tourist attraction- the ‘Magnetic Hill’ where cars accelerate uphill in neutral (it just looks like a puddly piece of road but is neat to see in real life). The other cool thing we saw in New Brunswick was the Bay of Fundy where the highest tides in the world (10-15 m) are visible. They are so high...

Sep 10, 2009 - Moncton, NB - Back to New Brunswick

(Ron Writing) When we awoke this morning it was only 43° outside – it’s definitely starting to feel like Fall. The past few days we’ve noticed leaves on some trees starting to change color – also starting to look like Fall. This morning we drove on Highway 19 along the south central coast of the island. This took us back to Borden-Carleton where we got on the Confederation Bridge and drove back to New Brunswick. There was no toll when taking the bridge the other way but this morning we were charged $56 Canadian to take the bridge back...

Aug 12, 2009 - Moncton and Hopewell Rocks

We got to Moncton just in time to see the tide coming in at the Tourist Information Center, the small waves in the pictures HaHa. Walked around the town with Guinness, real nice people met some fireman who told me about Hopewell rocks and a Lady from a radio station gave me a free ticket to get in. Went to a Pub names St James Street and had a pint of Guinness. Stayed in town park for night, watched sunrise then drove to Hopewell rocks. There we went down to walk on floor of The Bay of Fundy which is a red mud all over our feet and legs but...

Jul 31, 2009 - Wi-fi on buses

We drive back down the coast road, this time we can see as there is no fog and it is daylight. We stop in Saint John for some supplies but as we go over reversing falls again, it is at slack tide, so the tide is already halfway in. We decide not to go back down to St. Martins, as the tide is halfway in by the time we get down there we wouldn’t be able to walk on the ocean floor and get to see the echo caves, and as the fog is rolling in over the coast, even if we could get down there we probably wouldn’t see anything anyway. We drive up to...

Jun 30, 2009 - Moncton, NB (Day 2) - Plumbing and Internet Work

(Ron Writing) Yesterday we noticed water had leaked under the sink in the area where the fresh water fill-pipe and the water pump are located. After much searching I couldn’t locate anything leaking. I concluded that the water must have gotten there somehow when I filled the fresh water tank yesterday morning. This morning I took another look and saw the floor was a little wet again so the search resumed. Finally after crawling on the floor and using a mirror and flashlight I was able to see a very slow drip coming from the fitting on the...
