Jun 18, 2017 - Woodstock to Four Falls

Woodstock to Four Falls 5 hrs 16 min 105 km 760 meters of climbing It turned out to be a warm night. I didn't need to wear my socks to bed. But I did and I had to take them off half way through the night. We get up at around 6:30 and are on the road by 8 AM. It is a short ride to Tim Horton's for our breakfast. We are now travelling north along Highway 102. And the wind is at our back. It is cloudy but warm. We encounter a couple of cyclists travelling in the other direction. They are from Germany and have started in Toronto and are making...

Jul 23, 2015 - Grand Falls Day

So as hoped, today was a much better day. Met another helpful camper and he was an electrician from Alberta. With his help and that of the RV customer service hotline, (best customer service ever - especially since we are only renting and do not own!), We are now proud owners of a pretty nice battery charger! It's replacing the job of the inverter and everything is working fine. After a morning of working that out, we set out this afternoon to do our zip-lining activity we had planned. It was awesome!! So awesome Cole got stuck out in the...

Jul 22, 2015 - We Finally Arrived

After a 3 a.m wake up call and 1316km (13hrs) of driving we arrived at Grand Falls NB. After making that drive, I know two things. I won’t ever drive that far in one shot again, and this country of ours is definitely not flat. It’s very pretty and very different landscape out here. Driving a 36’ RV wasn’t that bad, if you don’t mind the noise (this one has lots) and using hazard lights to drive up the hills out here. They are big and they are long. Every time I wandered onto the bumper strip, I excused myself. Our first stop was in...

Aug 11, 2013 - Lac Baker (NB) to Clearview (NB)

The wind died down during the night. I awoke at 4:30 am to a beautiful starry sky. However, it was cold and dark, so I went back into my tent for another 45 minutes before packing up. Breakfast was ready by 6:00 am, so I headed off at 6:30. The recommended route had us continuing on Highway 120 past Portage-du-Lac, Caron Brook, Baker Brook, Saint-Hilaire, Venet to Edmunston. In Edmuston, we were to take Highway 144 past Saint-Basile, Rivière Verte, Sainte-Anne-de-Madawaska, Saint-Leonard to Grand Falls. From there the route was along...

Jun 5, 2013 - Relative visits after Minor Incident

We made it to our first stop, Grand Falls New Brunswick. Although we stopped about half way to Grand Falls and went into the 5th wheel to make a sandwich and all was ok by the time we got to the campground and opened the 5th wheel we found one of the cupboard door had opened and 4 cups were in pieces all over the kitchen. Other than a ding in the floor and a scratch on the cupboard no other issues. Since arriving JJ have been busy visiting her family. Attached is a picture of JJ with her aunt and husband who she has not seen for several years.

Aug 20, 2012 - Day 36 - Edmundston to Grand Falls, NB

Our first very short drive, about 40 kms today. A stop to look at the canyon turned into an overnight stop so we could explore more. The Falls are apparently spectacular in the spring but now water is diverted by the dam for the power plant. This leaves the gorge open to view and it is spectacular. We spent more than an hour walking the path along the gorge and found a lovely campsite at the end so decided to fetch the RV and stay the night. There was a young couple from Ontario, with 2 daughters, tenting beside us. It reminded us a lot of...

The Wandering Nunns

Sep 26, 2011 - Grand Falls

So on Sunday morning I undertake the most frustrating drive of my life as I go to pick up Seona to get a bagel. Man I hate driving in Montreal. I leave my hotel at about 11:30 and it’s 2:00 before I’m finally leaving the city (I took another wrong turn in the process of leaving the city even). The rest of my drive is fairly long and uneventful. The Rimouski/Rivière de Loup area of Quebec is very perdy. When I get in to my hotel it turns out that it’s the same hotel that we used to stay at when we were younger whenever we went to Big Pond! I...

My Year on the Road

Aug 18, 2011 - Grand Falls

Today we woke up in North Sydney, Nova Scotia and will find ourselves in New Brunswick by the end of the day. Took a great scenic route through NS on our way to the Train Station Inn for lunch. Highly recommend the fish cakes! We ended our day near Grand Falls, New Brunswick and got a nice view of the falls before heading to our campsite which had gotten soaked a while before we arrived. We basically hauled the kids into the trailer and all stayed inside for the remainder of the evening since it was so muddy! Too bad we missed the beach,...

Sep 4, 2010 - Dodged Earl

Well it looks like we made the right decision fleeing from Halifax, Earl has passed us way to the east and is currently quite a way north on it's way to PEI. We have been hit by big time rain storm since about 5:00 AM this morning but no wind at all. Have spent the last couple of days checking out Grand Falls and the surrounding area. The city of Grand Falls is split by the St. John River, with quite a waterfall right down town. At this time of year it's not very impressive but the pictures we have seen that were taken in the spring time...

Sep 1, 2010 - Running From Earl!

Well, they always say discretion is the better part of valor, and they must be right. This morning Marilyn's discretion over-ruled my valor and we decided to flee the path of EARL! Took a look at our trusty map trying to put ourselves as far out of the projected path and still be close to see the rest of the things on our list, and came up with Grand Falls, New Brunswick. So 2 gas stops, one Tim Horton's break, and 635 K later we are in the Spring Water RV park just outside of Grand Falls. Hopefully enough land between us and Earl!

Aug 20, 2009 - St. Leonard and Grand Falls, New Brunswick

ST. LEONARD, NEW BRUNSWICK CANADA August 20-21, 2009 We entered New Brunswick at Edmundston (Hwy 2) pretty early on the morning of August 20th and stopped at the Visitor’s Center. Canada has an extensive number of Visitor’s Centers. There is usually a major one at key entrances to every province and also smaller ones in most towns. The large ones are equipped with brochures, travel guides and staff to provide travelers with information about an entire province. The smaller centers provide travelers with information about specific smaller...
