Apr 26, 2015 - Enjoying Manitoba

Waking up in Manitoba seemed no different than any other place we had been, until we looked outside and could see the sky over night had clouded over and was begining to rain... lightly, but still....it was rain. Today was going to be a busy one... we had to get packed up and on the road early. Michelle had found us a place to camp for the next night which included two golf courses... and they were open... Mike was all for that, and if we did things right we would be finished golf and back in the RV in time to watch the Senators play hockey...

Jun 3, 2013 - I think I am in Heaven

We just had the best mennonite meal at the Heritage willage in Steinbach, Manitoba. Cabbage borscht and brown bread. Wareniki and farmer sausage with cream gravy and coleslaw. and rhubarb platz for dessert. Makes me miss my mom so much while I am in this province. Visited with Aunt Nellie and Aunt Annie and Henry and Uncle Peter and Tina yesterday. This morning we left there for Steinberg to search for some Farmer Sausage and found this museum. We will be here for the rest of the day I am sure. Later this afternoon we will head for Kenora...

Sep 20, 2010 - Into Manitoba and Ontario

Sept 18, Woke up to a cool morning—skim of ice on the puddles and frost on the flowers. We stay on Hwy 13 going east and about 20 miles there starts to be all new oil pumpers in the fields along the road and as far away as you can see. We also saw 2 drilling rigs working. Apparently this is a new oil field discovery—I think it is called Bulkan. This is where the fellows that were camped in the same campground last night must be working—they arrived welders and equipment on their mud covered trucks. Ross wonders how this design works and...

Aug 12, 2009 - Mennonite Heritage Village

My Mennonite heritage is beginning to show.. We spent the afternoon at the Mennonite heritage Village in Steinbach after sampling the lunch menu at MJ's traditional Mennonite cuisine...with all the heavy cream gravies like my mom use to make for us as kids.. The only person that can top this traditional cooking is my sister Peggy in Northern Alberta.. We shared our experiences with the Hieberts who were originally from this neck of the woods and were our guides throughout the little towns south of Winnipeg. We thank them for their...

Aug 12, 2009 - The day at Mennonite Heritage Village

Wally & I, Art & Sandy drove out to Steinbach & enjoyed a delicious mennonite lunch of vareniki, schinka fleisch, kielki, farmer sausage & peach/saskatoon pie at MJ's Kafe. Brian & Janet met us at the Mennonite Heritage Village for a memorable time of browsing through the museum, with a short trip out to where Wally & Brian's grandpa Hiebert is buried as well. The weather was stunningly gorgeous & we had a wonderful memory-making day together.

Sep 1, 2008 - Sept1-2 in Kleefeld, Manitoba (Southern Manitoba)

After leaving Sioux Falls, South Dakota, I drove through Fargo, North Dakota and into an amazing rain and windstorm that almost took me off the road it was very intense, but not like Hurricane Gustav... Fargo seemed to be a cool city and the border was very long and the people working ask questions for 10 minutes to every motorist much different than our BC Border patrol that asks you if 1 minute of questions and lets you go through. So I have been staying with a great family who has welcomed me as I have checked out a school called...
