By chance after reading the Rough Guide we spent a lovely day driving the Red River Heritage Parkway (Road 238) just outside Winnipeg. The road runs next to the Red River which was once a tiny part of the supply route that connected the Red River Colony to Hudson Bay. Along the route we explored the history of the area and the Hudson Bay Company. One of first stops along the route was the Twin Oaks which was established as a school in 1858 for the daughters of Hudson's Bay Company employees by Matilda Davis.
