It rained in the night and again this morning, but cleared enough in the afternoon that we could take a hike on the trail that follows the beach of the ancient lake that once covered this entire region. We are sharing another of Connie's poems about this lake. Aug 28, 2014 - Day 19 - Whiteshell to Grand Beach

Another beautiful day…even warmer than yesterday. One of the highlights of the day was stopping at the aboriginal petroforms on the way through Whiteshell Park (some estimated to be over 1500 years old). Arrived in time for a late lunch at Grand Beach on Lake Winnipeg. We walked for close to 3 hours this afternoon, enjoying both the beach, with its fine, white sand, and the sunshine. During our walk, we saw a baby bald eagle in a tree beside the beach and its mother.

Jun 22, 2007 - Church, Beach, Lake, and Clouds

Today we travelled out from Winnipeg and headed to the Grand Beach Provincial Park on Lake Winnipeg. On the way we passed through Cooks Creek to see the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception known as the Prairie Cathedral. This magnificent church was built between 1930 and 1952. Unfortunately we were unable to go inside. Grand Beach has long stretches of white sand and high grass crowned dunes along the shore of Lake Winnipeg, Canada's 6th largest lake.
