Apr 13, 2013 - Spring Maintenance Feb 2013
This spring the CT need some maintenance done to keep it running. It would only start if I used the emergency booster. That was hard to operate the emergency booster and drive at the same time. When I removed the batteries the starting battery was dated 04 / 05 and the accessory battery was dated 11 / 07. When tested, the starting battery was dead... The accessory battery showed go to go. I decided to replace both batteries. The starting battery was replaced by a regular acid battery and the accessory battery was replace by a marine deep...

Oct 11, 2012 - Grand Rapids, Manitoba
We left Thompson this morning with snow all over our truck & fifth wheel. Bill had to sweep the snow off the top of the slides and thaw out the TV antenna so we could lower it. The roads were a little icy but after the county truck added some salt on the road we were fine. Story of the Lynx at Pisew Falls About 45 miles south of Thompson is the Pisew Provincial Park. The name, "Pisew", is translated from the local Cree language meaning "Lynx". It was so named because the sound of the hissing water bears a resemblance to the sound of this...

Oct 9, 2012 - Churchill, Manitoba - Day 4
It’s day 2 on the tundra and, again, what an awesome experience. The snow on the tundra today gave the landscape an entirely different look. We were so fortunate to have seen several arctic animals today. The arctic hare, the muskrat, two red foxes and one arctic fox, several species of shore birds and two polar bears, all living together and sharing the land. Again, we had lunch with a fantastic view of a polar bear. It was sad to leave this primitive land we grew to love in such a short time. Tonight we had an early dinner and boarded...

Oct 8, 2012 - Churchill, Manitoba - Day 3
Today, our bus driver Paul took us on a tour of Churchill. He showed us the Port of Churchill, and told us that most of the grain grown in Manitoba is shipped all over the world from this port. Then we went to Fort Ann, a fort built by the British to keep the French out. While visiting the fort, we just happened to see a beluga whale in the Hudson Bay. What a thrill! Next stop was the Polar Bear Jail. When a polar bear gets too close to town, the bear is sedated and put in the jail for 30 days, with just water, and is secluded from people....

At 8:00 we boarded the bus that took us out to the Tundra Buggy. Now the journey begins. We were all so excited, anticipating our first polar bear sighting. Oct 6, 2012 - Churchill, Manitoba - Day 1
Brief History of Churchill Located on the edge of the Arctic, Churchill offers a ‘frontier town feel’ with the amenities of an international tourism destination. With its unique position as an accessible Arctic community, the town comes alive each time the train or plane arrives. Polar bears are everywhere – on murals, signs, souvenirs, sculptures and sometimes the live version wanders in as well. Snowmobiles roar through town in winter and ATVs cruise by in summer. The town of Churchill grew from a remote outpost to a bustling seaport with...
