Sep 11, 2012 - Williams Lake BC

First thing in the morning we went to the Historic Barkerville Provincial Park sight, A well preserved historic mining town.   There were many building to visit and there were a number of presentations to participate in.  There was a presentation on a Cromwell Water wheel and a guided tour of China Town both were very good, the town  was celebrating its 150 anniversary.    I would recommend a visit if any one is in the area.  After our tour we headed back to Williams Lake a very uneventful trip as the transmission did not act up.  Will have...

Aug 9, 2012 - Day 107, back to Williams Lake

Day 107, Thursday, August 09, 2012 I don’t think it rained during the night but we woke up to fog so thick we couldn’t see anything across the lake. It started to lift as we loaded up to leave. My back is on the blink as well as my sound machine. I tried to sit in my chair but couldn’t do it. I ended up on the couch for the whole 200 miles back to Williams Lake and slept most of the way. Rob was on his own. We are staying at the Stampede Campground right by the rodeo grounds. We only planned to spend one night but plans change. We’ll stay...

Aug 19, 2011 - Williams Lake, BC

We left Smithers disappointed that we never could get the wi fi to work. That was our only complaint about the town, however. The people were so friendly as we discovered throughout Canada. We continued heading east on the Yellowhead Highway towards Prince George, where we would pick up Highway 97 and head south. We wanted to find a place to check emails since it had been nearly two days since we’d had good wi fi. The Milepost showed an exit in Prince George that was supposed to have Walmart and Starbucks. We knew that Starbucks usually...

Aug 4, 2011 - McLeese Lake, BC - Wednesday, 3 August entry

We spent last night at McLeese Lake, BC. The map number is at Williams Lake about 30 miles south of McLeese Lake since McLeese was not available in the database. The campground (and our campsite) was right along the highway. We listened to trucks and their engine brakes all night long. The lake was very pretty and Zeus got some time with his water bumper. He was in heaven. When we took him back to the motorhome he sat looking out the windshield at the lake and whining. He wasn't done yet.

Jul 4, 2011 - Lillooet to Deep Creek Campsite (Williams Lake) via 108 Mile Ranch (Edited)

Doing a journal it turns out is a bit more involved than one would think. We've decided that each entry will encompass our travels between overnight stops. So.... since the last entry had us in Lillooet, we will start from there. It's Monday; the sky is hazy with high clouds, but it's warm. The first order of the day is to get Gus a new thermostat and a rad flush. An hour and a half later we are on the road again heading to 108 Mile Ranch for a lovely two-hour visit with Brian and Mina Mutch (my youngest son's uncle and a friend of many...

Jun 22, 2010 - Williams Lake

Hi Everyone We started our next day journey on a beautiful day, warm and sunny. We walked into town to get some breakfast and guess what?? Nothing open, so we left and went down the road to grab some breakfast. We are heading for Williams Lake BC , with what ever we find along the route to stop and visit. Lots of construction along the way. Not to bad, usually only tied up for a few minutes. We came across this old ranch at mile post 108. It was from the late 1800's to present. It was really enjoyable going through, but the best part there...

Jun 4, 2010 - Williams Lake, B.C., Canada and new friends

We arrived in Williams Lake, B.C. The campground was not very nice. I felt like I was in grandma's attic. But, we met the nicest people. We met a couple from Alberta. Morris and LouiseAnn. They have traveled all over the world in their boat. Now they have a motor home. They are headed to Alaska for a rally. They have a darling Australian Labradoodle named Molly. It was fun visiting with others heading our way after 5 weeks on the road. We also met another couple from Oregon heading to Alaska as well. So, we visited until we froze to death...

ALASKA BOUND - 2010

May 19, 2010 - Kamloops, BC to Williams Lake, BC (Wildwood RV Park)

As we passed through Kamloops - a huge and pretty cool town with the river running through the middle of it - we stopped at the visitor center and found lots of good literature for the areas of British Columbia we're going through this week and will be back through when we return from Alaska. BC is an outdoorsman's dream...fishing, hiking, mtn biking, skiing, snowmobiling. We'll probably check out the museums, heritage parks and salmon bakes! One highlight of the day...saw an eagle just sitting in a tree looking at the lake below. Stopped...

May 8, 2010 - Gold Country route

Hello everyone, We are now in Williams Lake and leaving tomorrow for Barkerville. Today we toured the local museum which is very extensive with nice displays as well as the new visitor center made of beautiful logs. We walked at the Scott's Island Nature Preserve and saw many geese, ducks, birds and a muskrat cruising in the water. The staff at the center were very knowledgeable and friendly also. It was a nice and sunny spring day. Tomorrow we head for Barkerville which was the final destinations during the Caribou Trail Gold Rush of 1858....

May 1, 2010 - Day 40 Williams Lake, BC

This morning we departed Burnaby-Cariboo RV Park about 9am, planning to drive until we were ready to stop - no definite destination in mind. We wound up traveling about 400 miles. You need to understand that we have 1500 miles of Canada to cover! It's amazing how big this place is. Beautiful scenery kept us pretty much entertained along with intermittent showers. In one stretch we followed train tracks with the longest train I've ever seen! It changed sides of the road after going through tunnels so it was fun to see it emerge again....
