Jul 17, 2012 - Another day on the road
We came across a young Caribou shortly after heading out. We’d been seeing Prairie Dogs and Chipmunks, but so far they were the only wildlife. It was great to see that Caribou. We're staying at the Toad River Lodge campground tonight. Melissa started some laundry while I set up camp. Just as we were finishing up the tent – you guessed it – it started raining! It rained most of the night again. The Lodge has some really pretty little cabins available and we are sure envying them!

Stayed at Toad River RV Campground for one night in a Water & Electric only site in Toad River, BC. Once again, we especially enjoyed the free Wi-Fi while we have no cell phone or satellite TV service. This is a recommended RV park. Note 1: On Weds., 06/27/12, we visited Stone Mountain Provincial Park, BC, traveling in route to Toad River, BC. Note 2: On our drive from Fort Nelson to Toad River, BC, we saw several herds of Stone sheep with baby lambs, numerous Moose with a baby calf, an Elk with a baby calf, numerous different species of...

Jun 27, 2012 - Toad River, BC
Greetings! We left Sikanni Chief on June 26th and headed for Toad River. We saw the bear in the pictures, but that was about it. The scenery is getting interesting and thankfully the Milepost is telling us what we see. That makes the drive so interesting. I read and the boy drives. We drove through an area where the roads had been washed out last week. There was still mud and gravel on the road. The people traveling this road last week had to go back to Dawson Creek and wait for the road to be reopened after a couple of days of being...

Added some new pictures from yesterday. Will add more when I get service again. Got to run, the guys are waiting on me. Headed to Laird Hot Springs today for a nice hot soak. Oh the Hot Springss were great !!! Just what the body needed. Bob even joined me and in fact was there longer than me. At the source it was too hot to even dip your toe in the water but as you moved down stream it was much better, ie cooler. Weather has been good, sunny and at times cloudy but really decent. The scenery is just out of this world and pictures don't do...

July 10 and 11, 2011 Sikanni River to Toad River Lodge & RV Park Toad River RV Park (mile marker 404) We had a nice drive north and as the road started climbing we saw a lot more variety of wild flowers. We stopped in Fort Nelson for gas and visitor’s center so we could call ahead to the next campground for reservations and to check out more tourist brochures. Since crossing the Canadian border we met our first Canadian Mountie here. John was very excited to meet this six foot tall Mountie, her name was Jennifer. John is such a flirt!...

Jun 3, 2011 - On to Toad River, British Columbia
6/3/11 Left Dawson Creek this morning after going to see the Mile 0 Monument in the town center....and taking a couple pics. Drizzly morning so looked like a day to put some miles on. Had planned on making it to Fort Nelson but got there early afternoon, had some lunch, and headed out for Toad River. The morning drive was in and out of rain and snow. Here we go again!!!...... Doesn't do much for my co-pilots mood.....she misses the sun..... Saw some elk, a couple black bear, a road kill moose, and a black wolf feeding on a road kill...

May 26, 2011 - Miles and Miles
Day11 Miles: 370 Total: 3307 Campground: Toad River Campground, BC Swallows swooping, woodpeckers pecking, beavers swimming, and with the setting sun casting shadows and colors on the hills as we overlook the beaver pon we end another nice day on the road. Grilled chicken on the barbie, sautéd spinach and chocolate cheesecake provided our last treats for the day. As we left the area north of Fort St John this morning, the traffic thinned and we would go miles with out seeing another vehicle as the road took us north through the rolling...

Sep 15, 2010 - Day 63 - Watson Lake, YT to Toad River, BC
A nice day today. Had a short rain shower last night. I remembered this morning that I had not included any pictures of the rock messages in my earlier blog, so will include some in today’s. Our travel today will take us from Watson Lake, Yukon Territory to a place called Toad River, British Columbia. We will also be crossing the YT/BC border another 5 times during today’s drive. We crossed the border twice yesterday. Leaving Watson Lake, we drove along the Laird River for quite a ways, even having to stop for construction on the Laird...

Jun 20, 2010 - We Say Goodbye to Toad River Campground
We are up early hoping to get an early start to the day which we hope will take us only as far as Liard River Hot Springs. While we get things buttoned up to hit the road it is decided th celebrate Father's Day with a breakfast out up at the restaurant in the lodge. We know it will be expensive but to this point we have eaten out just once. So up to the lodge and some eggs, sausage and hash browns. After paying the bill we mosey back down to the camper and just as we are winding up the electrical cord and water hose a female moose comes...

Jun 19, 2010 - We Elect To Spend Another Day at Toad River
This is such a beautiful spot and so quiet that we decide a day of rest is in order to relax and enjoy the scenery. So much wildlife around us and so we want to see more. We hope the moose will be back today and we kept hearing loons last night but were never able to spot one on the river. Maybe today they will make an appearance as well. We saw many pairs of Scaups and a couple of pairs of American Wigeon. These guys are all still there this morning along with a lone Trumpeter Swan. Maybe others will join them. Lots of friendly folks were...
