Oct 4, 2012 - Kelowna to Surrey, Canada

October 3, 2012 Awoke to a cold but beautiful morning. On the road by 9:00 which is early for us. Bob is getting up at 8:00 now! BC wine touring was fun. Wineries need to provide diversity because of local distribution only. They are now struggling with what they want to be when they grow up! 16% of all production is merlot followed by 11% pinot gris. They feel they need to create sub regions that show case their varietals by making wines that express a terroir that will not confuse the public. They are now looking at a New Zealand model...

Apr 30, 2012 - April 2012

We were welcomed home by all the people we know in Pacific Border RV. It was great to see old friends again. We spent the month catching up with doctors, dentists, etc. and friends. It was a very rainy month as well. The photos tell much of the month's story. We went over to Sechelt from April 5-10 to see how things are going. Maureen went over to Victoria from the 13th to the 15th to stay with her sister and husband for a couple of nights. Found some wonderful very fresh halibut to bring home and went to a wonderful restaurant called...

Jan 4, 2012 - Surrey, BC, Canada

Having left Missoula in cold (relatively speaking) sunshine and arrived here at Daphne & John's Wednesday eve Snoqualmie Pass in rain and then a torrent past Seattle in horrendous (comparatively speaking) rush hour traffic, we are happily 'on our way' travelling once again. It seems to be here at D & J's that we can begin our transition from 'home' thoughts to more 'worldly' thoughts. Less focused on the everyday, even minute by minute minutinae of living to a broader vision of who we are and where we're headed down the road in both space...

Oct 7, 2011 - Home Sweet Home

It has been an exciting past few days, and my journey has yet to even begin! This past week I got the opportunity to say goodbye to a ton of great friends from all realms of life, and it definitely makes you realize how much you appreciate those around you. Thanks friends!! I'll see you in no time. Yesterday I had my graduation ceremony where I received my Bachelor's Degree Major in Psychology and was grateful to have my proud parents there watching me walk (surprisingly not stumble) across the stage. Couldn't have done it without them,...

Sep 2, 2011 - At the treetops

Yesterday we split into two groups. Shirley drove into Vancouver and we dropped Don and Jeanne off with their bikes for a day of biking in beautiful Stanley Park. Shirley and I continued over the Lions Bridge to North Vancouver to the Capilano Suspension Bridge and park. I was a little concerned going in about the "heart stopping" cliff walk which is part of the attraction. Anyway we had a great time in this "Disneyesque" park. IT was VERY beautiful and a setting that has been developed over 120 years to the park it is today. The suspension...

Sep 1, 2011 - Park Sweet

Yesterday we hit the local parks in Surrey BC. 3 of us wore our hiking boots, Don being the lone hold out and we hit the trails. The first park we went to was a forest which was the life long endeavor of twin men who even lived in a tree house they built in their forest. Many exotic trees plus huge Redwoods and Cedars. It was beautiful. Next we bounced around a bit trying to find the entrance to the next local park. We found many bike entrances but alas no parking. So navigator Shirley took us to an adjacent park right on the water. We...

Aug 31, 2011 - Bus Stop, Bus Stop

A reference to the Hollies 60's song fit our day yesterday perfectly. We took the monorail into downtown Vancouver and bought 4 fares on the Big Bus siteseeing tour. After a picnic lunch outside the library we hopped aboard with the option to get on and off when we wanted to eplore further. And explore we did! Vancouver is a wonderful city with many different and vibrant areas. As a bonus we got a second tour of the very large Stanley Park at the end of the city. What a beauty. The weather started out cloudy and cool but the sun came out in...

Aug 29, 2011 - Oh Canada

The four of us moved on up to British Columbia Canada. We drove aboot (Canadian) 95 miles to Surrey BC and are camping in a private campground nicely situated on a creek. Actually, this is Don and Jeanne's campsite but their rig couldn't fit so we swapped spots. We drove to the shore around lunch time. White Rock is just up the road and we strolled the sidewalks looking at the Pacific Ocean and for a lunch spot. We had an EXCELLENT lunch at a local fish and chips place then went for a walk on the beach. Not at all like east or west coast...

Jan 10, 2011 - Back In Canada After 4 Months

We pulled out of Medford Oregon around 8:30 this morning, real easy hookup as all I had to do was turn off the fridge. The drive most of the way through Oregon state was shrouded in fog, in some places quite heavy. But by the time we were nearing Portland we were under clear skies once again, but only for a very short period of time. The farther north we went the grayer the skies and the more white stuff on the side of the road. By Bellingham there was the odd snowflake coming down. We hit the Peace Arch border crossing right around 6:30...

Dec 2, 2010 - Tulalip, WA - Delta, BC

Happy Birthday Steve! We depart the casino and make a quick stop at Walmart (can't resist!) and make it to the border mid-morning. No problems with the customs people and off to Delta, to start the unloading process. Along the way, we discuss the things we enjoyed most about our trip and recall some of the people we met and things we saw. We agree that it is so great to travel, you meet interesting characters, nice & maybe not so nice people and you see where people live and what they do. The scenery changes, so does the weather and you...
