Jan 10, 2013 - Back at Hutcha Resort on Samui

We were sad to leave Koh Phangan but we want to make our way up the west coast of the Gulf of Thailand to Hua Hin so we left Haad Salad this morning and checked into Hutcha on Samui for two nights. On the 12th, we plan on taking the train, about a 6 hour journey, to Hua Hin, spend 4 nights there and then on the 16th, board another train to Bangkok so spend our last 3 days in paradise. We fly home on the 19th. We apologize that these updates have been short, and few and far between. We haven't had much luck with Internet connections. When we...

Jan 2, 2013 - Dreamland Resort

Hello from Dreamland Resort on the beautiful island of Koh Phangan. It was a bit of an adventure getting here but we're sure glad we did. Our four nights at Hutcha Resort on Koh Samui were wonderful and we were sad to leave but Koh Phangan was calling. If anyone is planning a trip to Samui, Hutcha resort comes highly recommended. Extremely friendly staff, lovely accommodations, gorgeous grounds, delicious food, breathtaking beach and at a price that is almost embarrassingly cheap. Remy took a video of Hutcha but since we can't manage to...

Dec 30, 2012 - the scooter ride

I make no bones about it, I am a scaredy cat. By the time I got of the back of the scooter I had cramps in my legs from holding on but now that we are back in the bungalow I can say it was fun. Just going to have a little rest in the a/c and then to the beach for a swim. We rode up to the Santiburi Golf Club where Remy managed to get the GM to give us a personal tour. Beautiful course with some breathtaking views. All female Thai caddies and they all live in staff lodging as part of their wage. We even saw a cobra, thankfully dead. Given up...

Dec 29, 2012 - Bangkok Sucks you in and Spits you out.

Unfortunately, updating this journal isn't quite as easy as we'd hoped. Until we can find an Internet Cafe, these entries are going to be brief. However, just wanted to let everyone know that we are safe in our beautiful resort on Koh Samui. Good to be here after two days spent in Bangkok and one very very long night on the train. Bangkok was certainly an experience that I'm glad we had but not sure it's one I necessarily would want to do again .. at least not in the Khao San Road area. It is an assault to the senses. Loud and chaotic and...

Oct 28, 2012 - 58 Sleeps

We had the first of two Twinrix shots on Thursday and got out Typhoid meds. We have another Twinrix shot in a month which will protect us from Hep A and B .. but we still need a booster in 6 months to make us immune for life. Apparently, there is a shortage of Typhoid injection vaccine so we were given an oral vaccine. Four pills in all to be taken every second day. Must be taken on an empty stomach as it can cause vomiting. Haven't started these yet. Since my last entry, we discovered our travel agent was given incorrect information from...

Sep 14, 2012 - 102 Sleeps

In only a few more days, we will be counting sleeps in double digits. I remember when we first started planning this trip back in January and the amount of sleeps was in the 300's, it seemed as if December was a lifetime away ... but here we are in September and winter is just around the corner.: We are probably more prepared than most travellers are a week before departure. We could be packed in 15 minutes if we had to. All that's left to do is to get our injections and buy an underwater camera but even though we've been planning this for...
