Apr 6, 2012 - Snow Birds have Landed

Friday, April 6, 02:30 pm - We got away from Omak this morning, arrived at the border, 08:50. We are home. Drove to Salmon Arm to visit our Son. And watch the Masters, Men's Curling tomorrow. And of course some Turkey on Sunday. There is still snow here at the higher elevations. So, i suppose, this winter of 2012 journal will come to an end. I have enjoyed trying to insert some humor, and keep this interesting,(its kind of like watching Uncle Bobs home movies, after 5 mins it gets boring). So until our next trip, we will have to be...

Aug 4, 2011 - The Family Reunion

After finding out that the over- heating was caused by a clutch fan not kicking in properly, we hit the road. Linda took on the driving at Abbottsfort, for the first time driving the motor home. It is big and cumbersome and after just about taking out the curb once, I made it to the highway, trying to stay in my lane and not drive on the rumble strip on the shoulder of the road. I got the hand of it eventually  On the way up the Coquihalla I was driving in the ‘super slow’ lane being passed by RV’s and trucks (a very strange feeling),...

May 31, 2010 - Day 1

We left Salmon Arm around 9am on the first day of our journey. We are heading for Fort McMurray for at least 1 week. We have decided to travel the Yellowhead as it is a much easier drive then the Rogers Pass. It is a beautiful day and we are anxious to be on our way. We put in a 10 hours day today and stopped at a campground called No Jack, east of Jasper. I would not recommend it to anyone, it was very run down. Could be very nice with a little TLC. The wildlife was abuntant, 1 bear, 2 deer, 4 elk, 50+ (to many to count) mountain sheep and...

Sep 12, 2009 - Final Days At Salmon Arm

Well today is the final day of flying at Salmon Arm, BC. Friday brought out fantastic weather, temps up in the high 70's and it's supposed to stay that way for the rest of the weekend. Some of the BOYS went to play golf and then go flying. From what I was told the golf scores weren't that good, but much fun was had by all. It seems there is some sort of rivalry between AL and Bill. Something to do with Pink Flamingos. Well this year wasn't any different. Al woke up this morning to find that the Pink Flamingo Fairy (Picture that in your...

Sep 9, 2009 - At Salmon Arm

Arrived at Salmon Arm, BC on the 6th (Monday) and set up our camp. We have five of us all in one area. As usual is took up the greater part of an hour just trying to figure how to roundup the wagons so we could all visit relatively easily. As this was the first time we had stayed in this part of the campground, it took a bit longer to get things set up. Tuesday found us going into town on our annual visit to the Farmers Market. Replaced all the produce we gave away with farm fresh stuff that is so very good to eat. Spent the rest of the...

Jul 11, 2007 - Salmon Arm, B.C.

We left Hope about 8:00am this morning and decided to take the Fraser Canyon route to Kamloops instead of the shorter Coquihalla. Neither of us had driven on the Fraser Canyon route for at least 20 years - it was a real nice change. Much better than the 'coke'! Great scenery all the way through the canyon and with the added passing lanes and highway improvements, it is a much easier drive than it used to be. I would definitely take this route again. Again, our Silverado Duramax had no problems at all with any of the grades and the...

Jul 16, 2006 - Houseboating on the Shuswap

For a well deserved break, we headed to Lake Shuswap in the BC interior for a week of houseboating. Our boat was awesome, slept 12 with just the 2 of us on it! We cruised the lake during the day, docked on the beach at night, had campfires, relaxed in our hottub and drank beers with whoever else was on our beach that night. We had such an awesome week, and despite our crappy walmart fishing rod didn't actually manage to catch any (though we did get trout from our neighbour one night and he had to fish at 75 feet to catch it - don't think...

Jul 2, 2005 - Pritchard to Sicamous - 117 km

We awoke to the sound of raindrops on our tent...this was the start of a meteorological rollercoaster for the day. We opted to have breakfast and get ready to go before taking our tent down...and luckily the rain ceased for a moment while we took it down. We hit the road a little on the late side today - we didn't leave camp until almost 9.00 am...fully decked out in our rain gear although it wasn't as rainy by the time we left. About 45 minutes into the ride we had to stop to take some of our rain gear off as the sun had come out and the...
