Feb 24, 2014 - Are You Kidding Me?

We arrived home on Saturday afternoon just as a tiny sprinkling of snow began to fall. It is now Monday afternoon and it is STILL SNOWING!!! A week ago we were picking oranges in Bakersfield. Excuse me? Again, we lucked out on the last leg. The drive from Centralia to Richmond, was pretty good, even though we hit some big sloppy snowflakes in Seattle. Good to be home, despite the snow. A great trip -- met some nice people, saw a bunch of neat birds, got in some golf (do not ask how perfection of my swing is going), spent some time with old...

Dec 26, 2012 - Day 1: Steveston BC to Castle Rock WA

After all the hubub of solstice celebrations and Christmas madness, we made our getaway early on Boxing Day, thinking the Cross-Border Shoppers (CBSs) would be staying home and the border would be a breeze. Maybe. We weren't sure. But the theory seemed sound. And of course we were wrong. The CBSs were out in droves. The line-up at Peace Arch crossing stretched for a mile, two lanes, bumper to bumper. The radio and the signage said "Minimum wait one hour". We groaned. I pulled out my iPad. I passed Ron a magazine. We said mean things about...

May 9, 2012 - Port Townsend-Steveston

After a cup of coffee and a muffin at a little coffee shop in the boatyard by the marina, we did a stroll through town, and then loaded up and headed for the ferry. The terminal is right downtown so we didn't have far to go. We had made a reservation (no charge!) on the noon ferry, but since we were ready decided to try for the 11 o'clock. We were surprised to hear that it had been cancelled because of the tide -- apparently this happens every so often. Go figure. But it got us at the front of the line for the next one. It was very wild...

May 4, 2012 - "Never leave port on a Friday"

We started off this week-long excursion to the Olympic Peninsula on a Friday. BIG MISTAKE. As former sailors, we know the mariners' adage, so we should have figured it would apply to road travel as well. But we ignored it. Or forgot. Or something. We will NEVER leave port on a Friday again. Crossing the border is always fraught with worry, not because we have anything to hide -- we are pretty meticulous when it comes to being law-abiding at borders -- but because of the line-ups, the hidden agendas, cases of mistaken identity, and so on...

Jan 3, 2012 - Are we really leaving?

It's been a challenging few weeks. A double hit of 'flu, then the flurry of Christmas, a false virus alert from Shaw that cost us a few days and a few dollars, but we persevered. Originally we had scheduled ourselves to leave December 26: ho ho ho and then hit the road. Then we pushed it to December 27:ho ho ho, pack (always a good idea), then hit the road. Then Ron got feeling poorly so we pushed it to December 28. But, as it turns out, he was REALLY feeling poorly and we pushed it to January 3, then finally, January 4. So a few false...

Jun 25, 2011 - Richmond

Mar 6, 2010 - My journey has started! 旅立ちの時

My journey has just started. ついに、ついに旅立ちの時がやってきた。 The destination for today is...Richmond! Yay! Travelling time to Richmond is about 35 min ride.... WELCOME TO THE WORLD! WELCOME TO RICHMOND! Finally I landed in Richmond!!!!!! What!? Wasn't I supposed to go to Hanoi instead of Richmond? Well.....Don't worry! I am STILL going to Vietnam. There are good news and bad news. The good news is that I am leaving to Hanoi tomorrow (March 7th). But the bad news is that I can not stop-over in Japan as I initially planned due to the delay of my...

Dec 24, 2009 - Princess Salsa

This trip not ALL about Salsa, but it is a lot about Salsa. She's getting on. We like to travel and don't like to leave her behind, so we figure RVing is the way to go. We've been flying to Mexico for years, but have never driven to Mexico, so this is a first for us. And we've never been to the Baja. Another first. Salsa is a lab, so we're planning on hitting a lot of beaches, avoiding dead puff fish on the beach, and keeping an eye open for cactus needles. For our part, we're on a big learning curve, learning about RV systems, the RV...

Dec 22, 2009 - Gearing Up

Okay. We know it's Christmas, and it will be lovely, but we have this Thing we're going to Do. The Christmas shopping is done, the tree is up, the turkey is in the fridge and we're looking forward to it, but once all that fooferaw is over, we're hitting the road. We're new to RVing so we have lots of questions and details to address. We're trying NOT to buy every little gadget that comes across our path until we know what we need. But it's awfully tempting. We are going to get the satellite radio hooked up and stock up with some spares and...

Nov 27, 2009 - Lost jacket-help

Grandma cooked a x-mas dinner the night before, then went to work, the day before she leaves for 2 months. Alana cleaned the house, Sheldon searched the house (every inch) for his jacket, Grampa had a beer - No stress. I stayed in St. Albert with Abbey, finishing any last minute items. This is my last day of being alone with peace and quite.

Nov 26, 2009 - Steveston

Sheldon and Alana arrived in Steveston to pick up Poppa and Grandma. Thursday night is a X-mas dinner at Grandmas with family members, Auntie Kendra/Uncle Dan and Owen - yes I didn't believe it either, but the pictures actually show Uncle Dan at a family function (there must have been free beer),Uncle Ted/Auntie Dennis, Theo and Jacob, Uncle Ty, Brandon and Courtney. For some unknown reason, gifts were exchanged and then opened. Jacob the future movie director was plotting to capture the evening. Being together with family and friends, set...

Nov 22, 2009 - A new adventure

This is Ron and Cameron, from Traveland in Langley, taken one rainy day in November, just after we'd bought our NEW RV!!! Cameron had spent a few hours going over all the systems and then going over them again. The picture may appear blurry, but it's not really the picture. It's us. There's a lot to learn. But we are hitting the road!
