Sep 30, 2012 - Yoho to Revelstoke
September 29, 2012 I awoke early to a slight drizzle this morning. Fortunately we had packed the chairs etc. last night (I needed to do some work on the remodel spreadsheets). Bob did not get up until 8:30. It really does not get light until 7:15. Mel and Carly dropped by to give us a kangaroo pin and Australian key chain which was very sweet. (Mel used to work for Phillip Morris and now fort Foster. His mother asked if he was going to be peddling drugs next! ) We drove to Emerald Lake where Bob, Leslie and I had a wonderful several years...

Sep 11, 2012 - Enjoying Revelstoke
We have been enjoying our stay in Revelstoke. Yesterday was a rainy day, but not so much that it prevented us from exploring the Revelstoke Dam that lies west of town on the Columbia River. The dam is principally a power producer. In the process it has created the small Revelstoke Lake. We drove to the end of the lake and enjoyed the view looking back toward Revelstoke and the mountains beyond. During our stay I have been taking advantage of the excellent bike path system of the community. Today I did a long run that enabled me to explore...

Sep 9, 2012 - Revelstoke
The Lamplighter RV Park in Revelstoke is a nice small campground with good 30-amp hookups, cable tv and wifi. Our site is comfortable and faces a nice sumac tree. The area around the campground and the town is kind of interesting. Just outside the park is a levee that apparently protected the area from flooding by the Columbia River before a large damn was built upstream. The levee has a great paved bike trail on it. The road near the campground crosses the river by way of a one-way bridge controlled by traffic lights. At about the same...

Sep 6, 2012 - Cache Creek to Revelstoke
We departed Cache Creek at about 10:00 headed for the Rockies. As we headed east on the Trans Canada Highway our surroundings gradually changed from irrigated arid countryside to rolling hills and the beginning of evergreen forests. Then we began to see mountain peaks and then peaks with glaciers. While most of the trip was on a two-lane road, when we reached Kamloops it exploded into a six-lane thruway that passed through that relatively large city. We followed the South Thompson River upstream to the town of Salmon Arm on Shuswap Lake. On...

Aug 11, 2012 - Revelstoke, BC
Leaving Cache Creek the climate definitely and land definitely was warmer (make that hot for us) and dry. All the lush mountains and farmlands were gone. It felt so strange seeing this type of landscape in BC. Not too far down the road, we came to the town of Kamloops. Now this is a happening place with the Kamloops Lake running for miles to the north of the highway. It appeared there was a great deal of growth there with mega homes and lots of home/condo construction. We here that if you go south on 97 a little east of Kamloops that it is...

Jun 28, 2012 - Albert Canyon
Day eight – Albert Canyon – 109k Rain showers had fell during the night but the morning broke with split cloud. After a breakfast of French toast, porridge and fresh fruit I set off towards Revelstoke. The road was wet. We were getting back into the mountains again. The highway wound its way towards Revelstoke with ups and downs and lots of views. The roadside waterfalls were noticed before one got to them by the drop in temperature. The cold water chilled the air around them. The water rushing down Crazy Creek was a sight to behold. ...

Aug 14, 2011 - A Great Stay in Revelstoke BC
We quickly learned a few differences in Canadian and US RV Parks. The money is quite different, and pretty. A Loonie is one dollar, and has a loon on the coin. A two dollar coin is called a Toonie and is both silver and gold in color. A Loonie is generally charged for 5 minutes of water in the shower. It quickly became a challenge for us to get our showers done within one Loonie time frame. Wi-Fi is not a big item for most of them so if they have Wi-Fi it is very weak. This, of course, was a frustration for us throughout our trip. Our...

Aug 10, 2011 - Traveling to Canada to Meet the Hills
Monday morning we packed the coach and hooked up the ‘Toad’ and we were off to Canada! We decide to take Highway 12/127 to Spokane rather than go back on I-82 or 395. It was a nice scenic drive through the eastern Washington agricultural area. From Spokane we went to Post Falls to stay at Cabala’s for the night. Joy needed to visit Banfield Vet (in Petsmart), and they are in Spokane, so that called for a trip thru the Spokane city streets! Judie was just thrilled by that adventure! From Spokane we headed north on Highway 395 to Canada. We...

Jul 17, 2011 - Revelstoke, BC
Today was moving day; well, not a very long driving day anyway. Our destination was Revelstoke, BC about 90 miles west of Golden. Because we go into Pacific time today and the clocks go back an hour, there was no hurry to get going. We hit the road earlier than we had planned but knew we could stop a couple of times to kill time so we wouldn’t get to Revelstoke too early. Our route west on the TCH 1 took us over Rogers Pass and through Glacier National Park. We met two lovely couples at the viewpoint at the summit of Rogers Pass and they...

June 30 - Mara to Canyon Hot Springs near Revelstoke K’s 128.22 Time 5h46m Average speed: 22.21 T to D 559.55 Good ride today on fairly level roads until we got past Revelstoke. That's were the climb begins into the Rogers Pass. The weather was great all day! We had our first crash on route to Canyon Hot Springs one of our Australian riders, Joe, a 60 year old school principal got too close to a the rider in front in a pace line and crashed. He suffered a bad ligament tear of the shoulder and that put him out of the tour. I saw Joe as...

Campground: Williamson Lake Campground Our schedule called for 4 days at Banff but when we found out we could get a refund, we left today for Revelstoke BC. Rain off and on all the way there and rain in Revelstoke. It’s a cute little town surrounded by mountains and we found a great brew pub for lunch. Today’s special was tacos and they were yummy. There are lots of advertisements for heli-skiing in Revelstoke because of all the snow. In fact, Revelstoke holds the Canadian record for the snowiest single winter-24.47 meters of snow fell on...
