Aug 14, 2011 - A Great Stay in Revelstoke BC

We quickly learned a few differences in Canadian and US RV Parks. The money is quite different, and pretty. A Loonie is one dollar, and has a loon on the coin. A two dollar coin is called a Toonie and is both silver and gold in color. A Loonie is generally charged for 5 minutes of water in the shower. It quickly became a challenge for us to get our showers done within one Loonie time frame. Wi-Fi is not a big item for most of them so if they have Wi-Fi it is very weak. This, of course, was a frustration for us throughout our trip. Our...

Aug 10, 2011 - Traveling to Canada to Meet the Hills

Monday morning we packed the coach and hooked up the ‘Toad’ and we were off to Canada! We decide to take Highway 12/127 to Spokane rather than go back on I-82 or 395. It was a nice scenic drive through the eastern Washington agricultural area. From Spokane we went to Post Falls to stay at Cabala’s for the night. Joy needed to visit Banfield Vet (in Petsmart), and they are in Spokane, so that called for a trip thru the Spokane city streets! Judie was just thrilled by that adventure! From Spokane we headed north on Highway 395 to Canada. We...

Jul 17, 2011 - Revelstoke, BC

Today was moving day; well, not a very long driving day anyway. Our destination was Revelstoke, BC about 90 miles west of Golden. Because we go into Pacific time today and the clocks go back an hour, there was no hurry to get going. We hit the road earlier than we had planned but knew we could stop a couple of times to kill time so we wouldn’t get to Revelstoke too early. Our route west on the TCH 1 took us over Rogers Pass and through Glacier National Park. We met two lovely couples at the viewpoint at the summit of Rogers Pass and they...

June 30 - Mara to Canyon Hot Springs near Revelstoke K’s 128.22 Time 5h46m Average speed: 22.21 T to D 559.55 Good ride today on fairly level roads until we got past Revelstoke. That's were the climb begins into the Rogers Pass. The weather was great all day! We had our first crash on route to Canyon Hot Springs one of our Australian riders, Joe, a 60 year old school principal got too close to a the rider in front in a pace line and crashed. He suffered a bad ligament tear of the shoulder and that put him out of the tour. I saw Joe as...

Aug 31, 2010 - Revelstoke, BC

Campground: Williamson Lake Campground Our schedule called for 4 days at Banff but when we found out we could get a refund, we left today for Revelstoke BC. Rain off and on all the way there and rain in Revelstoke. It’s a cute little town surrounded by mountains and we found a great brew pub for lunch. Today’s special was tacos and they were yummy. There are lots of advertisements for heli-skiing in Revelstoke because of all the snow. In fact, Revelstoke holds the Canadian record for the snowiest single winter-24.47 meters of snow fell on...

Trip To Canada

Jul 1, 2010 - Revelstoke

Happy Canada Day!! Yes it is Canada’s day like our 4th of July. We woke up at the crack of dawn again today. Poor Darwin he is still on Idaho time where I am on my time. If we can sleep in and have an extra hour I’ll take it. All kidding aside we were up and out of the camp ground around 7:30 and on our way to the next stop which is Revelstoke Canada. We crossed the Columbia river on another ferry and Linda did soooooo much better she stayed in the truck again while I visited with motorcycle people from Nelson. This was a little smaller...

The Alaskan Frontier

Jun 9, 2010 - Revelstoke Bound

Woke up this morning in Surrey to the sound of pouring rain! Figured I'd out wait it and sleep in a bit but damn it was time to roll and still raining. We pulled out of the Tynehead RV Park and hit the freeway eastbound for Revelstoke. A stop in Chilliwack at Tim Horton's for coffee, Merritt and Sicamous for gas, and into the KOA in Revelstoke just after 4:00 PM. And yes, the rain followed us all the way, sometimes a major downpour, and as per usual, it stopped just after the trailer was set up for the night!

Dec 6, 2009 - Bogota, Colombia

Bogota November 27 – December 4 I was happy to get such an inexpensive flight from Orlando to Bogota, Colombia. Weeks ago I checked on the internet and the best price was with Jet Blue Airlines. Only 89 USD. Pretty good deal! I arrived a few days ago where Adriana met me at the airport. This time the arrival seemed almost easy. Maybe in comparison to other countries, Colombia will seem tam e this time round. Since my last visit here in 2004, lots has changes. New construction projects has given way to new roads, modern apartment buildings...

Dec 6, 2009 - Quito, Ecuador

I arrived here in Quito last Friday. The town is small compared to Bogota and the vibe is quite different as well. The people seem more reserved. On the other hand, the city does have more Andean culture. I got here in the middle of a celebration. The city is celebrating a bi centennial anniversary. Pan flute music echoes in the air and brass bands play on top of converted school busses. Chivas as they are known in Ecuador and Colombia are mobile party busses that cruise the city. Willing participants can dance, sing and consume a variety...
