Sep 2, 2012 - Barkerville
Saw a place in the Milepost we had to visit. Kacy married a Barker so off we went to the gold rush town of Barkerville...set up as a replica of the way it was back in the day with period costumes, actors, ect. We ate at Wake Up Jake's there...which had a nice buffet and was named after a miner who always fell asleep there before he ate. We took the town tour down Main St with a great tour guide in character with other actors popping in and out as we passed and discussed buildings and places in town. Even went to an authentic show at the...

Sep 1, 2012 - Quesnel, BC - Roberts Roost Campground
Wearing my FSU game day shirt but do not even know who we are playing. We are really out of touch. Har and Matt will keep us informed. Found out we passed the world's largest fly rod but we missed it. Not really obvious and we forgot to look till it was too late. (In Houston, BC). Had trouble finding places to eat when we stopped in Fraser Lake because they celebrate Labor Day too and closed early. Lunch of sandwiches, grapes and chips in the RV today. Made it up to 63 day, but back in the 50's when we caught up with the cold front. Parked...

Aug 18, 2012 - It's Hot!!
It’s hot! I’m not complaining but I had no idea it got this hot in Canada. We’re in Quesnel, south of Prince George, BC and the temp is 91 degrees! Surely I wouldn't complain after all the cold and wet we've had. The southern half of the Cassiar Highway is just as spectacular as the northern half, but not quite as dramatic. The mountains are farther away and the forests aren’t quite so high and close to the road. As soon as we turned onto the Yellowhead Highway, CA 16, we knew we were back from the wilderness. Traffic picked up and we...

Aug 4, 2012 - Day 102, to Quesnel
Day 102, Saturday, August 4, 2012 The drive from Vanderhoof to Quesnel was uneventful. The landscape is even more open with rolling hills and farms and ranches. A bit like some parts of northern Arizona. We skirted Prince George (80,000 people) and turned south onto Highway 97. Quesnel is about 60 miles south of Prince George. We are in the Airport Inn Motel and RV Park. The RV part is a big open grassy area with lots of room but no trees for shade. It was 87 degrees today. The locals are really complaining. The temperature in the bus was...

Jun 18, 2012 - Quesnel, BC Pop 24000
Monday, June 18, 2012 Quesnel, British Columbia A family of River Brethren or Mennonites (since they had an old Blue Bird bus, they couldn’t be Amish) were camped in the site next to ours. I wanted to say hello to them, as I did with the other campers but I didn’t want to invade their privacy. As we were about to leave I tentatively waved to the oldest daughter and she waved back so I went over and introduced myself and she shook my hand and said she was Nikita and her brother, Hunter was enjoying his pacifier. The mom came over to visit...

Aug 25, 2011 - Quesnel, British Columbia
After a mostly sleepless night, we were on the road by 9. However, it was the first morning in a LONG time that we didn't awake to rain! There was a nearby public sani-station. The Yellowhead Highway (Hwy 16) continued to be a great highway. The tall mountains were gone, farmland was bountiful, and the logging trucks were everywhere. We stopped at the outdoor Vanderhoof Museum. Vanderhoof is the geographical center of British Columbia. We had to use the air conditioning on this day. However, last night in Houston the furnace came on...

Jun 2, 2011 - Quesnel, BC - Pressing on North
(Ron Writing) This morning we got a fairly early start (for us) and continued driving north on Hwy 97. Much of the time we were following the San Jose River as it winds through a broad valley with several small towns, farmland, and ranch land. Several of the towns along this route have names like “70 Mile House” or “100 Mile House”. These names originated when the location simply had a house used as a stagecoach stop. The “miles” refer to their distance north of the town of Cache Creek. The first large town we came to was Williams Lake. We...

May 28, 2011 - Sea to Sky and beyond
In this portion of the journey, we have collected: 1630 km or 1010.6 miles of highway and gravel roads driven 17.5 hours of daylight daily (from 4:30 am to 10 pm) 2 bald eagles sighted within 50’ of our vehicle 7 caribou greedily depleting the dandelions along the roadside Numerous clumps of dandelions that surge up to 1 ½ FEET tall 2 coyotes scurrying across the road and disappearing into the forest 1 mama bear and her twin cubs crossing the street to find better foraging where the grass is greener and the dandelions are taller. 1...

August 26-29 We put in one last day in Stewart hoping to see bears feeding, but no luck. A black bear had been spotted before we got there (sleeping in a tree) but we only got to see an Eagle feeding on one of its leftovers. We did run into a couple from Florida who we had met earlier at Glennallen, Doug and Susie Paishon. They joined our little caravan as we drove back to Prince George. They will travel with Frank and Linda a day and then split off. As we said our goodbyes this morning, it seemed like we were leaving old friends whom we...

Aug 13, 2010 - Telkwa to Quesnel, B.C.
We left Ft. Telkwa at 11:15 after giving the RV a rinse at the free pressure wash at the RV Park. Stopped for a few groceries in Burns Lake. Prices are coming down some the further south we go. Passed through Prince George and filled w/ fuel at Hixon for $.989/ liter ($3.74/ gal) Found a place to stay in Quesnel, B.C. called the Airport Inn and RV Park. It was formerly a drive in movie, but had been leveled off. There were many empty spaces for as nice a place as it was. All grass, but no shade. $33.60 w/ full hookup, cable and fast WiFi.

Jun 15, 2010 - Quesnel, BC day 2
June 15,2010 day 10 Today is a down day. We decided to rest here since we are in no hurry to get to Dawson Creek. I have been waking up at about 5:30 am for the last 3 three days. Now I think I know why. Sun rise this morning was 4:45 am and sunset is at 9:38 pm. I’ve been going to bed at my normal time, 11:30 pm and I normally awake at 7:00am. But the skylight over the shower shines into the bedroom and wakes me up. I made a cover for the skylight; I think it is time to put it on at night. This morning we went into town to walk around and...
