Sep 2, 2016 - Day 68 Penticton, BC

Day 68 Park Royal RV Park. A little rain in the AM. After lunch we took about an hour walk along the waterfront. All sorts of amusement stuff around. The interesting thing was a huge inflatable play set out in the lake. Cost was $25 for the days use. Was closed today. Got back to trailer with about one minute to spare before it started to rain hard. Whew! Then went and did some grocery shopping. I'm getting tired of trying to find stuff. Everything is labeled in English and French. We haven't liked their meats at all. Don't know why it...

Alaska...Again 2016

Sep 1, 2016 - Day 67 Penticton, BC

Day 67 Park Royal RV. Michelle and Rowland picked us up and we drove up through a gazillion wineries to the FLAT hike. Hah!! And I didn't bring poles because it was supposed to be FLAT. I'm sure Michelle thinks we've gotten really old and feeble. Anyway, we made it to the falls (almost) which were very pretty. Could see them thru the trees. After that we started in on the wineries. Stopped at several and ate lunch at one of them. I had pulled pork with peach BBQ sauce. Very strange. Absolutely no smoke flavor and very sweet. Canadian food...

Aug 31, 2016 - Day 66 Penticton, BC

Day 66 Park Royal RV Park. Very nice park, site was even raked. However very difficult to get into due to narrowness and trees. Trees are nice for shade but are not friendly to sides of trailer. We've found a lot of parks like this and I think they developed the parks when RV's were smaller. Anyway, We got settled and I was doing dishes when I looked out the window and there was Michelle and Rowland!! Apparently they live a couple blocks from campground. Since we don't have a phone that works in Canade we have been emailing. We sat and had...

Aug 24, 2016 - Day 66 Penticton, BC

Day 66 Park Royal RV Park. Nice campground, site had even been raked. Very difficult to get into due to narrow space and trees. Trees are nice for shade, but not friendly to sides of trailer. Got situated and was doing dishes and looked out window and there was Michelle and Rowland!! Apparently they live just a couple blocks from campground. Since we don't have a phone that works we have been emailing. Had a glass of wine and made plans for tomorrow. Really warm.

Jul 1, 2015 - Canada Day

Today is Canada Day and looks like there will be celebrations all over. Today is our last day in British Columbia and is a beautiful part of Canada and so glad we have been able to see as much as we have. It's 50 miles to the US Border where we will enter into Washington. These 50 miles are all orchards and vineyards with fruit stands every mile. The orchards are full of cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines and you have blue berries and strawberries, really just about anything you can think of. And this is the wine corridor with tons of...

Jun 30, 2015 - Pentiction, BC

From Clearwater to Pentiction are enormous lakes. The campgrounds are packed yet you don't see a lot of activity on the water. The boats look like little specks in comparison to the lake size. You must be thinking why are we going to places we have never heard of...we set a driving time per day and try and determine where we will be. Pentiction, BC is a very congested area as was the drive all day. We have gone from hardly any population to highly congested areas. We found out later that the next day is Canada Day similar to our 4th of...

Oct 2, 2014 - Day 54 - Penticton/Naramata wine tour

Another beautiful fall day in the south Okanagan. Not much wonder that they call it Canada's "hot spot". Average October highs are close to 16 (and looking at the weather report this morning, it would seem like we are indeed in the warmest place in the country right now). We decided to drive a little further today - as far as Penticton and the Naramata Bench wine district. Once again the number of wineries was incredible, and once again we selected just three to stop at. We had lunch at the first one - the Hillside Winery - a rustic wooden...

Aug 25, 2013 - freedom

we have been waiting for our wire transfer of payment for our car to come thru. it hadn't come by Friday and we were feeling a bit hemmed in so decided to hire a car and get out. we had our eye on a 5th wheeler about 4 hours away up north so decided it would be a good opportunity to go and look. this place Penticton is about 1 hour from Kelowna where we plan to stay for winter. the town at the foot of Big White where we will be spending Xmas with our family. our first real attempt of driving on the wrong side. a bit scary for a while but...

Oct 4, 2010 - GETTING STARTED

Well who knew there would be so many things to think of and prepare for before we are able to head south for the winter! Many are no-brainers that one would just automatically do but there are other things that you don't think of at first. Phones, newspaper subscription, mail, insurances, to name just a few.

GETTING OUR FEET WET

Jul 12, 2010 - Taking the southern route

Our first stop was in Hope for a quick visit to the tourist info office and to fill up with gas. We had a quick look at the old Kettle Valley Railroad right of way as we drove around Hope. The plan had been to go explore the Quintette Tunnels (KVR Othello tunnels) but, in the interest of time and because Hope had greeted us with a downpour that showed promise of continuing, we decided just to press on. Leaving Hope, we headed along the...

Jun 3, 2010 - Muffler, lake, wine, cheese and crackers!

We went into Pentincton today to get our muffler repaired. This young kid comes out (22 seems like a kid to me, ha ha). He gets in the motor home to drive it into a stall and I think to myself.....I need meds. With the air brake, it was jerking around etc. But he finally got the hang of it and whipped it into the stall and hoisted it up. Three brackets broke. He said he could fix it in an hour. So Bill and I headed over to a pub across the street and had lunch in an outdoor patio as it was the first sunny day over the last two weeks. Then...

ALASKA BOUND - 2010

Apr 7, 2010 - OMG a $50.00 voucher

We got up early so we would have time to make breakfast before we had to catch all our buses. Then I remembered that the power went off at 8am, dammit no pancakes. We caught an earlier bus downtown in search of breakfast. I asked this couple where we would find the supermarket. They pointed us in the right direction. They were asking where we were from and about our holiday etc. Just before we left the lady gave us a voucher. It wasn't till we left OMG a $50.00 voucher for a local restaurant, awesome. That was the best part of my day but...
