Sep 5, 2012 - Nisga'a Memorial Lava Beds Provincial Park
We left Hyder and started down the road to Prince Rupert for some whale watching, a side trip to Hana creek to check on the sockeye salmon and the Lava Bed Provincial Park was included when we found out the whale tour did not run until Friday. A little side trip to continue our quest for the Spirit Bear. We did see three black bear. Will try again tomorrow. .

Jun 10, 2011 - Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park
We started the day out with a black bear in the morning several eagles and a frog. In the afternoon we took a trip towards Cranberry Junction seeing one additional Black bear. In the afternoon we visited the newly dedicated Nisga’a Museum in Laxgalts’ (Formerly Greenville). The Nisga’a’s are renaming all of the English names to their original native names. In the evening we spotted a grizzle sow with two COY’s and one young black bear. No white bear were seen.

Jun 8, 2011 - Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park
We saw a total 14 bears today, all of the black variety. First stop of the day was at Smithers, BC for a couple of hours of wild wife shopping. We continued on to New Hazelton were we made a quick stop at the ‘Kasn Village and Museum gift shop. Our next stop was Terrace and then north on the Nisga’a Highway to camp at the Nisga’a Memorial Lava Beds Provincial Park campground. The park is a memorial for the 1750 volcanic eruption that killed 2000 of the Nisga’a tribe. This area and Terrace are the stomping grounds of the Spirit Bear (a white...
