Jul 28, 2008 - Meadows in the Sky Parkway

The Meadows in the Sky Parkway climbs 1600 metres and 26km to the subalphine wildlife meadows of Mount Revelstoke National Park. There were several viewpoints on the drive up the mountain that offered incredible views of Revelstoke and the surrounding mountain ranges. The road at sixteen switchbacks. The road goes as far as Balsam Lake. After that you park and walk up to the summit or ride the summit shuttle to Heather Lake (fame at last!). As we had Jenny with us we walked the summit trail up. We made quite a lot of noise as we climbed as...

Aug 27, 2007 - Can't Get Enough of Those Hot Springs

Today we drove through Glacier National Park of Canada. Yes ... Canada has a Glacier Nat'l Park, too ... except ... dare I say it ... it has more glaciers ... and in many ways is more profound than Glacier NP in MT. Besides that ... the road you drive through on is actually easy to drive ... paved ... three lane most of the time ... no cliff hanging here in Canada. As our experience has been throughout this summer, each turn of the road brings another what seems like more beautiful setting than we've seen before. Time and again today we...

Jun 16, 2006 - Yoho National Park

Before leaving the Banff area we checked out the old mining town ruins of Bankhead. This lies only a few kilometres from Banff and was once a thriving town much bigger in size than Banff itself and closed in 1922 after a long miner's strike. Quite an interesting history behind the town's story. However, Dom and Tony were much more interested in chasing a coyote than viewing the ruins. Headed back towards the Lake Louise area and on the way down Kicking Horse Pass stopped at The Spiral Tunnels. These are a series of tunnels completed in...

Jan 30, 2006 - January Powder

This month's powder seeking road trip took us to some great resorts: Castle Mountain, Fernie and Kicking Horse. We ended in the back country of Roger's Pass where a few hours of hiking led us to some awazing views and fabulous snow. We were lucky to hook up with friends to share the slopes. With some days at home, we have been planning the international part of our trip (TBA).

Jul 3, 2005 - Sicamous to Albert Canyon - 112 km

Leigh and I arose at the civilized hour of 6:15, struck down our tent relatively quickly (I think we'll have the routine down pat in a matter of days now), enjoyed a triple serving of French Toast then hit the road, again with our young friend Nathan. Minutes later we were beckoned by the Tim Horton's sign near the center of Sicamous proper. A large double-double then it was down to the business of the day. This was yet another spectacular ride. The weather was very co-operative, the winds were more or less neutral and the scenery was...
