Jul 22, 2012 - Liard River Hot Springs
Stopped at Liard River Provincial park (ie primitve camping) to relax in the acclaimed hot springs. Unfortunately the mosquitos were THICK!!! The good news is that the 45% Deet that we got at Cabellos worked pretty well :) It was 1/2 mile on the boardwalk to the springs and the Mosquitoes tried to carry us away with our original Deep Woods Off. That just attracted them and any body parts not in the water got eaten alive. A shame as it was very beautiful and relaxing if you could get out and cool off now and then without being eaten alive....

Jun 26, 2012 - Liard Hot Springs
Travel today to Liard River Campground. Only 189 miles but it took 6 hours. Crossed Summit Pass ( the highest point of this road). Mid morning we stopped at Testa River Outfitters for Big melt in your mouth Cinamon Buns (fresh from the oven)hot and dripping with sugar and cinamon glaze (any one for coffee??) Nice pretty desolate drive. We passed Muncho Lake. It has an azure blue color from copper oxide that leaches from the surrounding mountains. We also passed patches of snow by the side of the road. After parking we went to Liard Hot...

Jun 17, 2012 - The Rest of the Story-Liard Hot springs
While we were at the lodge and Rick was on the phone I found out that there had been a large wash out of the Alaska Highway north of Watson Lake, which was our next destination. The authorities were telling everyone to stay at Liard River until repairs could be made and they were say it could be anywhere from 3-5 days! Well that certainly was putting a big crimp in our plans. Our traveling partners had caught up with us and they decided to check into the Provincial Park across the street from the lodge and we would join them on Sunday after...

We are still at Watson lake. The weather is cloudy but nice. We are taking it as it comes. We had spent a day at Laird Hot Springs a couple of days ago. It was great. The water at the hot springs went fron 105 deg. on one end of the pool to 120 deg. on the other end. It was nice to just relax and enjoy each other. Cindy's arm is getting better. We hope they get things cleared up soon. There are trucks and campers setting everywhere. We are lucky to be at the Libary using their internet. We will try to keep evryone up to date on whats going...

Jun 25, 2011 - Another Day In Paradise
2011-06-25 Another Day In Paradise After breakfast this morning we piled into Mike’s truck and took a drive up the highway to look for wildlife and check out a couple of waterfalls not far off the road. We saw a small Black Bear and a few Woods Bison, hiked to a couple of waterfalls and then trucked back to camp for lunch, a soak in the hot springs and, of course, a nap before supper. Tomorrow we move on to Watson Lake, just north of the border between BC and the Yukon Territory. Later, Gary

2011-06-24 Liard Hot Springs It rained quite a bit last night and the small leak dripping from the air conditioner grill in the kitchen ceiling was a lot worse than ever before. I got out the step ladder and a screw driver and removed the grill from the ceiling. There are four 10 inch long bolts that secure the AC unit on the roof. They pass through a square bracket that is below the ceiling and sandwich the ceiling between the bracket and the roof top unit. Three of the four dropped down a couple of inches and the fourth was loose! It’s no...

We are on the highway heading north; we meet some travelers at first stop finding that they were from Illinois and Indiana; we travel up the road with them until we reach Summit Lake there we continue on with our journey. We see black bears, buffalo and sheep as we travel along the highway. We arrive at the Liard Hot Springs where we will spend the night. A long walk to the springs is rewarding... Frank cooks his first meal outdoors since we left Colorado while fighting off the mosquitoes. The journey so far has been interesting......

Jun 20, 2011 - Hot Springs here we come
Monday: Left campground at 10:45 am. Only have 135 miles to travel to Laird Hot Springs Provincial Park. Got here about 2 pm. As we traveled, we saw a female moose, stopped and took pictures. Also saw a lot of buffalo close to the park. After setting up RV, ate some lunch, then went to the Hot Springs. Water hot, about 52 degrees C, but great. Had a good time soaking in it for about ½ hour. Met several couples. Came back to the RV refreshed, but wiped out. So took a nap! Woke up to rain and a little thunder! When are we going to have a...

Jun 18, 2011 - Laird River Hot Springs
We experienced a minor “Hic-up” today! Our Wagon Master got sick during the night, while here in Fort Nelson, and went to the Hospital for some tests. We had a knock on our door about 6:30 am asking if we could help as a Tail Gunner while the actual one took over the group. After getting over the shock of an early morning wake-up, we of course agreed. The “Tail Gunner” typically checks everyone’s tires early in the am and then is the last to leave to be sure everyone gets started and out for the day. Checking tires requires a “Thumping” of...

Jul 20, 2010 - Fort Nelson to Liard Springs
We more or less took our time this morning getting around to leave. One of the MH Caravans ended up in the same park we were in, so we wanted to let them leave first. You couldn't stir anything with a stick in here this morning it was so full. They all left and then we set out on this drive with much anticipation. We had heard and read a lot about the scenery and also all the animals we would see. Well the scenery was not quite what we expected until we got closer to Liard and it greatly improved. We saw a few animals, mostly sheep, but...

June 28, 2010 day 23 We left the campground in fort Nelson at 8 am, fueled up ($439/gal) before heading to Liard’s Hot Springs ( 153 miles). But on the way we have to stop at Testa River Service and Campgrounds for cinnamon buns (at mile 357.5). Note: the mileage listed in the Milepost book is the original mile markers and the road has been upgraded and shortened 35 miles. We just about missed it because I thought was a few more miles up the road. The cinnamon buns were good, big and expensive ($5/ea). The coffee was bad and expensive...

Jun 13, 2010 - Muncho Lake & Liard Hotsprings
When we left Ft. Nelson we stopped at the famous "TOAD RIVER LODGE" that has a collection of 7,772 hats hanging from the ceiling. We had lunch there but I couldn't convince Jim to add one of his hats to the collection. Then on to Muncho Lake, it is said to be the most beautiful lake in the world. When you see the pictures you'll agree, it's just breath taking! Didn't want to leave, but we decide to spend the night at Liard Hotsprings for a long soak in the wonderful mineral waters (temps. 108 to 126 degrees). It's pretty hot at first but...
