May 29, 2015 - Kamloops, BC

Yesterday, before leaving Hazelmere, we met two couples on their way to Alaska! One has a Sea Breeze and they came by to say hello. While talking to them about Alaska and National RV, they said they met four couples two weeks ago on their way here that were also heading to Alaska. It turns out they are some of our friends from the Dolphin Club traveling together! What a coincidence! Uneventful day today. Drove 225 miles to Kamloops, BC for the first of two over nighters before getting to Banff, Lake Louise, Calgary. Mostly a very scenic...

Canadian Tour-2015

Apr 2, 2015 - Day 236 - On the Road Again - Victoria to Kamloops

"On the Road again…" The first couple of days have gone well. We got away from Westbay before 9:30 AM and made a few stops on our way up the Saanich peninsula: Brentwood Bay, Church & State Winery, Ocean Discovery Centre in Sidney and Triangle RV. Got to Swartz Bay earlier than anticipated, but were able to switch our tickets from the 4 to the 3 PM ferry. The hour and a half ride to the Tsawwassan Terminal south of Vancouver was smooth, but too cool to be on deck. Last night we stayed at Eagle Wind RV Park, just west of Abbotsford - only 5...

Mar 11, 2015 - Kamloops

March 2, 2014 "The diamond-bright dawn woke men and crows and bullocks together. Kim sat up and yawned, shook himself, and thrilled with delight. This was seeing the world in real truth; this was life as he would have it — bustling and shouting, the buckling of belts, and beating of bullocks and creaking of wheels, lighting of fires and cooking of food, and new sights at every turn of the approving eye. The morning mist swept off in a whorl of silver, the parrots shot away to some distant river in shrieking green hosts: all the well-wheels...

Sep 6, 2014 - Off to Kamloops

After being through the higher Rocky elevations the trip on Rt. 1 seemed pretty tame but relaxing and pleasant. However there was one spot that made a nice picture worth sharing. My problem I have mixed feelings as to which setting on my camera made the best picture. Again I need your input which one do you like the best RED 1 through RED 4. I appreciate you input. Also do not forget JJ's painting vote. We have a couple of votes so far... Off to Vancouver tomorrow...

Sep 2, 2014 - Warning - as per

Adult Language Freud discovered that in every culture there are words which are considered taboo: words that are rarely spoken aloud, but, when they are, produce a dynamic and sometimes emotional and judgmental of the reader of the writer’s character. For those of you who don’t know me or have not known me for long, I use these words. Why? Because I am brutally honest…period…full stop. Honest in my feelings as I see it and as I feel it and as I write it. While not given a place in polite society, it is who I am and what makes me who I am....

Jul 10, 2014 - And we are off!!

Day 1 (Leah) We had great plans of leaving by 6:30am and hitting the longest stretch of road as early as possible, so that we could still have enough time for rest stops. When we awoke, there was rain pattering down outside and more rain to the west of us, which of course was the direction we were planning to travel. So we made the (easy) decision to wait it out an hour or so and sleep in. Sure enough, our luck pulled through for us, and after a little more much-needed sleep the skies were clear and we hit the road by 8am instead. We had...

Again, no church! We are packed and ready to go, heading to Kamloops. We saw a small caribou herd about 45 minutes south of camp. 'Brunch' at Quesnel - a cute town with treed and flowered square with a street clock. We parked in a Safeway lot and got take-out from Tim Hortons (awful), as Flutie can't be left in the car for fear of heatstroke. We took turns for bathroom breaks and a panhandler on a bike asked me for change. He was easy to get rid of, thankfully. Quesnel has something going on with decorated fiberglass couches. One in front...

To Alaska and Back

Jul 7, 2014 - Mon, 7/7

This was our rest day. I really like this park. It is a little lacking in some upkeep, but the setting cannot be beat. Kamloops is in a high desert - short, brown grass, a few trees in creases where there must be some water. The camp is an oasis, with a small brook running thru it between steep hills. They have lots of big old trees and two nice gardens, each with a water feature. The first features a Grecian woman pouring water from a jar, the same statue we used to sell. The second has a small pond with a Japanese feel, surrounded with...

Jul 5, 2014 - Kamloops, British Columbia

Greetings again from Kamloops, British Columbia where Ross & Marge are visiting Marge’s niece Debbie and her husband Dave. They have been having a very enjoyable visit and they have enjoyed the town of Kamloops. Dave and Debbie took Ross & Marge on a tour of Kamloops a couple of times and during one of those tours they stumbled upon a herd of big horn sheep. There are signs posted in several areas that the big horn sheep are in the area but like most of those types of warnings signs the only thing you ever see are the signs, never the...

Jun 28, 2014 - Kamloops, British Columbia

Yesterday morning around 0900 Ross & Marge left the Canada West campground in Revelstoke and headed for Kamloops, British Columbia, a distance of approximately 120 miles. They did not drive the Mt. Revelstoke drive because it was raining off and on and the clouds were very low. They may make the drive back to Revelstoke sometime during their stay to make that drive if the weather is clear. The road, Trans-Canada Hwy 1, is a relatively good road but it is two lanes for most of its length. There is project to make the portion of the highway...

May 27, 2014 - Rocky Mountaineer Train

Today is 28 May2014 (Canada time) and we are in Banff staying at the Fairmont Banff Springs Resort. We left Vancouver on 26 May on the Rocky Mountaineer Train and travelled to Kamloops for 10 hours on the train. We got into the town at about 8.00pm stayed at a nice hotel, but had to leave at 6.10 am to catch the train to Banff. It was a lovely journey as you can see from the selection of photos I have included, but 14 hours was a long time on the train. We arrived in Banff at about 9pm, unpacked and went to bed to rest up for our activities...

Nov 4, 2013 - Day 6 - Heading West

We left Edmonton at 7:30 am. It is cloudy but the roads are clear, -6C, there is less snow than yesterday, none in Jasper and Mount Robson Parks except on the mountain peaks. We are enjoying the sunshine and clear skies and light traffic. We had lunch in Valemount and then continued to McLure north of Kamloops. We stayed at a lovely campsite, Pinegrove Resort. A very long day, especially with Garry stuffed up and coughing with a man-sized cold.
