Jun 16, 2013 - Manning Park (BC) to Hedley (BC)

Today we followed Highway 3, which tracks the course of the Similkameen River, for most of the day. The morning began quite cold, so I had to put on arm/leg warmers and my light rain jacket. The route began with a long gentle descent for the first 23 km, followed by a few short but steep ascents and descents. We then had a long 9 km climb at about 7% to Sunday Summit at 1,282 m, followed by some fast (> 60 km/h) descents down past Princeton, where John and I stopped for a light snack and coffee. The last 33 km followed the gentle grade of...

Jun 1, 2010 - Hedley, B.C., Canada

We left Grand Forks and headed to Hedley, B.C., Canada. We found the cutest darn campground. All the picnic tables are yellow. It is on a river as well. The trees are beautiful. The people who run this campground are so friendly. I felt like I arrived at Petticoat Junction. (Okay, I am aging myself BIG TIME!). Does anyone else out there remember that show???? The owner came out and greeted us and she was so sweet. They had coffee and muffins for guests in the a.m. Great WIFI there. We stayed there two nights to get caught up on some things....

ALASKA BOUND - 2010

Jun 12, 2009 - Kelowna BC

We had to stop just before Kelowna for an hour because of road blasting. We were disappointed in how fast we drove across Kelowna's new bridge. We thought it would be faster. I guess it's alot faster for the people who live here. We found a very nice campsite in an apple orchard that isn't in the book. [Apple Valley Orchard] It had a nice view of many other farms.

Jul 11, 2008 - Day 33: Creston, BC to Hedley, BC

7/24: Finally finishing notes for the this leg... The storm at Creston never really developed into much, though the ground was wet when we got up in the morning. The day was sunny with high clouds, as usual. We continued to follow the Crowsnest Highway, Canada Highway 3, from Creston through Salmo, Castlegar, Grand Forks, Osoyoos, and Keremeos to Hedley. This was still mountainous driving with lots of up, up, up and down, down, down. Fabulous scenery - thickly wooded mountains and lakes to drier hillsides as we approached the Cascade...

Jun 2, 2008 - Day 2

DAY 1 Today's plan; get 10:15 ferry @ Duke Point. Camp near Hope, BC. Today is the day. Yahoo! After showers, coffee etc., we throw in a few last minute items. At 7:45 we hook up, check lights and brakes and we're off to the ferry. We leave CR in the sunshine and we are in good spirits. What a good omen we think. That changes though, as it gets cloudier the further south we go. That's okay. It's not raining. Be positive. The 2 hour drive to the ferry is uneventful and the sunday discount is delightful. About half price. We are...
