The furs shown were authentic. Term 'skunked' was explained. Some similar fur was more expensive, so they died the white in the skunk fur to black. Eventually if faded off, and hence 'your were skunked'. This area was settled around 1806 by a trapper. They used 3 routes to get the furs out. First time was over the Rockies to the East, but a trip to Quebec took 6 months. Second they had these small sort of sail boats that took furs to end of lake,then portage 20-30 miles to river and then down to the coast. Then around South America and up...

Jul 8, 2011 - Meeting Marilyn's Old Thornhill Friend

As some of you have reminded me today is my birthday and even though I try to ignore such things I'd like to thank family and friends for their best wishes. Marilyn got in touch with her high school friend this morning so we are headed to Fort St. James which is 60 km north of the highway about 100 km west of Prince George. An easy drive although there is some traffic and we arrived at Jack and Linda Robertson's place in the early afternoon. Their property is large enough that we parked the trailer in their back yard. May 27, 2010 - Provincial Park at Ft. St. John, Canada

May 27, 2010 (Thursday) Left Grand Prarie, Alberta CA at 11:30am Sign Post Reading said Dawson Creek-Ft. St. John- 47 miles (76K)and Ft. St. John-Ft. Nelson 236 Miles (381K) We saw our First Caribou Farm on the way up to Dawson Creek. We also entered a new providence "British Columbia” at 12:02pm today. Our motorhome mileage read 78,765. We saw out first 10% grade on the highway heading “Down” to Peach Island Bridge (check brakes pulloff). We stayed at a wonderful Provincial Park at Ft. St. John. We hiked to a wonderful lake.
