Aug 29, 2016 - Waterfalls at Fairmont Hot Springs resort

We just stayed with the Eagle today, weather was beautiful but too windy for Ray to play golf. I did get photos of the campground waterfalls, could not go down to it because of the Bears. All the walking trails are blocked off. We did drive around the resort and saw the newer development on the opposite side of the road with the more upscale golf course. This is a timeshare development and it appears there are others here too - overbuilt.

Aug 28, 2016 - Original hot springs and Columbia Lake

Yesterday was a bust as the skies were cloudy and it was rainy too. We stayed at the Eagle most of the day but did get out to climb the hill to the original hot spring location at Fairmont. The water is flowing still out of the ground and it was hot - perhaps 90 degrees. There was a wedding party at the top of the hill and the location would really have been scenic if the sky was clear. The resort has scenic trails to the waterfall and stream that flows right next to the campground, the trails are closed due to a mama bear and Cubs that are...

Aug 26, 2016 - Radium Hot Springs

We drove back up north to retrace our route of yesterday, the weather is just fabulous - clear sky and temperature 75 degrees. We first stopped at Invermere that is on Lake Windermere. Very pretty, a large lake with lots of swimming and boating. We then attempted to drive to Panorama Mountain resort as I think that's where Mary Lou and Jim stayed. Got up a very long windy mountain road that parallels the Toby River - scenic. Came to a halt with road construction - single lane and we'd have to wait 20 minutes. Decided to go back so we never...

Aug 25, 2016 - Fairmont Hot Springs

We took a scenic drive to Fairmont Hot springs, past the Radium Hot springs with a steep canyon. When we stopped for lunch Ray discovered the air hose was disconnected and had been dragging on the ground - now we have no braking on the car on this steep mountain road. We did get diesel in Canmore without incident before we left but I must not have fully engaged the air hose. Fortunately it was early and I was able to get ahold of Air Force One, they have a supplier in BC and she is mailing another hose to us - we should get it tomorrow....

Jun 26, 2016 - Fairmont Hot Springs Resort

Today is our fifth day at the Fairmont Hot Springs Resort and it is the first sunny day we have had since our arrival. The weather has been lousy with rain showers every day, temperatures in upper 50's and low 60's. The overnight temperatures dropped into the low 50's and upper 40's which made for good sleeping but we had to turn the heat on every morning and walking to and from the hot springs pools was a chilly walk. Wednesday was Marge's birthday and we decided to drive to the town of Banff, Alberta which is located in the Canadian...

Jun 21, 2016 - Fairmont Hot Springs

Today we took our time getting ready and we made several telephone calls before leaving because once we enter Canada we will turn our cell phones "Off". We will continue to have contact with anyone who wishes via the email system. This will, at the very least, eliminate our having to pay for robo calls which in addition to being a nuisance at home they become very expensive in Canada. We and will always have email access while in Canada even if we have to spend a lot of time at Tim Horton's, the Canadian version of Starbucks. We left the...

May 25, 2016 - Panorama

We were up about our usual time today and had breakfast. It was another bright sunny morning. It is too bad the weather had not been like this when the family was here at the weekend. Christine got the laundry together and I did the dishes. Christine went to the laundry while I vacuumed and tidied up. When we had finished our chores we had lunch then set off for Invermere where I got a piece of Plexiglas cut that I wanted for the trailer, then we headed up the road to Panorama. It is many years since we were there - we think probably 19 -...

May 24, 2016 - Invermere

We lay in for a while this morning then had breakfast and tidied up a little. Christine prepared some things and I went to the lodge to get a better Internet connection and updated the journal and sent the newsletter for perusal by our Executive Pastor before sending the final edition for printing. We set off for Invermere where we stopped at the bakery and had lunch. As we entered the store, our first reaction was one of consternation and the exclamation, "They've changed it!" One of the diners at the window responded, "That's what I...

May 23, 2016 - Goodbyes and Safe Arrivals

We woke to continued rain and David and Dawn packed up their rather wet tent trailer. Fiona and Irellan got their things together as we had breakfast. Irellan got settled in David's truck and they set off about 10:15am. Fiona talked for a while then she too set off about 11:30am. We tidied up and did dishes, and general housekeeping before having lunch. After eating we had a walk round the campground, something usually do several time during our stay, but due to the poor weather this is our first time. Many of the sites were vacant as the...

We woke to rain and it rained almost all day. David and Dawn went to golf. Dawn olny lasted about 3 holes before deciding the wet weather was not golfing weather. David persisted for the full round. May 21, 2016 - Golf & Pool

David and Dawn left for golf before the rest of us were up. We had breakfast and did some odds and ends around the trailer. David and Dawn returned as we prepared lunch and had it all together. Except for Christine we all went to the pool. It was dry, though cloudy. Christine came and sat by the pool, though none of us saw her. When David and I got back to the trailer, there was no sign of her and the trailer was locked. She had not see us leaving the pool, but did catch Fiona, Dawn and Irellan, so they all came back together and let me...

May 20, 2016 - Pool Day

We had a lazy morning and expected David & Dawn in time for lunch, but we got a text saying they had had a slow journey due to leaving later than anticipated and running into road works. We had lunch and went to the pool. They arrived a short tiume afterwards and set up and talked to Christine. David went o the bottom of the hill to get a few things they needed. After spending time at the pool we came back to the trailer and talked than had dinner. Fiona and Irelland went to the pool and the rest of us talked some more. David and Dawn went...
