Jun 7, 2013 - on the road again
June 7, 2013 traveling again Beginning Mileage 46299 We woke up to 46 degrees outside had planned to cook omelets but since we heard on the news it was National Donut day we decided to go to Tim Horton’s for coffee and donuts, as we were leaving the campground we saw a fox walking through the campground. We head West on TransCanada 16 to Tim Horton’s, well Buddy went on by it expecting there to be another one in town maybe by the Wal Mart we thought was in town, and there was neither so on we go stopping in New Hazelton up the road at the...

Aug 15, 2012 - Big Creek Campground To Dease Lake British Columbia
8-15 Big Creek Campground To Dease Lake Sunny, 52 Degrees, Hot In The Afternoon Stayed At Deace Lake RV Park Words you do not want to hear while driving on a coarse, paved, bumpy road…”Mike, STOP! You are smoking! I think you blew a tire! Yep…It’s lying on the road now behind you!” Of course, it couldn’t have been a truck tire which would have been easier, but was a trailer tire. They cause major problems. With someone right behind us to see what was going on, we know we didn’t drive on it long, but it was totally shredded and destroyed,...

Aug 10, 2012 - Dease Lake, British Columbia
Rain and cold again this morning with a temperature of 50 degrees. Before leaving I tried to call the GM dealership in the Palm Springs area but no cell phone coverage all day today. I pulled out of my site at 08:00AM and filled the RV with diesel at the gas pumps at the park. 137.788 liters at $1.339 Canadian a liter. I departed at 08:15AM on the Alaska Highway south. I crossed into British Columbia at 08:45AM, back into the Yukon Territory at 09:25AM, and crossed the Continental Divide at 09:35AM. I stopped at Nugget City Gas, just north...

Jul 25, 2012 - Day 92, Dease Lake, British Columbia
Day 92, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 We will not be staying at the Baby Nugget RV Park again. They are not friendly, not helpful, and charging way too much for what you get. The internet didn’t work unless you sat right underneath the antennae out in the mosquitoes and the Park was pretty ugly. They even jacked up the price for little stuff in the gift shop. These are the same people who would not let us stay here in May (when they were supposed to be open) because the water pipes were still frozen. Even when we said we didn’t need anything but...

Jul 22, 2012 - Stewart, Hyder, and the Cassiar Highway
Sunday, July 22 Air mattress went down again during the night--guess we will have to replace it. Light rain overnight, but no water in the tent. Cool and cloudy in the AM. Went into town for breakfast, then back to break camp. Stopped at the Visitor Center, and walked along their boardwalk over the estuary. Drove across the border to Hyder, then took the Salmon River Road. Stopped at the Fish Creek Viewing area (US). Saw some very large chum salmon, no bears. There were a couple of eagles at the far end, but they left. We also saw a yellow...

Jun 29, 2012 - Dease Lake, BC Pop 450
June 29, 2012 Dease Lake, BC – Population 450 Today was a travel day! The scenery is lovely; trees, lakes, rivers, mountains and meadows are great! However, there are times when I fall asleep, the landscape slides by hour after hour and my eyes close. I thought Scott wouldn’t notice as he’s does his pilot thing while driving, scanning the road, instruments and mirrors every few seconds. I couldn’t find a safer driver! The jig is up; Scott caught me sleeping with Little Bear (also asleep) on my lap Scott drove the southern section of the...

Jun 9, 2012 - Traveling down Highway 37
June 8 We drove to Stewart, BC today. The road leading here had some amazing views of the mountains and Bear Glacier. The sun is out but it is chilly and windy. Stewart is a cute little town. We had planned to camp at the Stewart Municipal Park, but it is not open for the season. We then heard of a recreation site that allowed camping at Clements Lake nearby. We drove in and decided to stay. It’s very scenic with snow capped mountains, lake, and tall spruce trees. The only problem is the mosquitoes – many, many great big ones. After...

Aug 20, 2011 - Dease Lake, BC - Bears on the Cassiar HW
(Ron Writing) We had more rain during the night and this morning it was still cloudy but at least it wasn’t raining. We continued east on the Alcan without making very many stops. We drove this stretch on our way to Alaska but it was nice to see it from the opposite direction. This stretch is mostly moderately hilly through heavily forested land with many lakes, creeks and rivers to add beauty to the scenery. We had hopes of seeing some moose in some of the roadside ponds and lakes but we didn’t see a single one. A few miles west of Watson...

Aug 16, 2011 - Jade City, BC
Yes, it is raining again but we got on the road and headed out of Skagway. The drive up and out of Skagway was much easier than the drive in and down. The roads were pretty good today and we made it to Jade City, BC. This area produces 90% of the world’s jade. The primary jade store in the area allows RV’s to camp overnight for free so that is just what we did. ...

Aug 16, 2011 - Dease Lake, BC
We had hoped to be able to get better wi fi connection today before we left the RV park in Teslin but the caravan group was still parked. We figured they were also doing last minute emailing and so the service was slow, if not impossible, to connect. The caravan group finally pulled out for Whitehorse shortly after 9:30 and we were shortly behind them, heading south towards the Cassiar Highway. We were not sure of the services along the Cassiar so took advantage of the two fuel stops along the way to top the tank. We think we hit our high...

Aug 4, 2011 - Dease Lake, BC - Saturday 30 July entry 2
We ended up stopping for the night at a campground near Dease Lake, BC. There was supposed to be an internet connection, but it didn't work at all. We had not had cell phone coverage since leaving Whitehorse, nor would we get any until we got to Houston, BC on Tuesday afternoon. I was definitely suffering from technology withdrawal by then. The drive down the Cassiar highway was similar to the Alaskan highway, but the road was much narrower and had more twists and turns. Our friends from Oregon were in a hurry to get home, so they spent the...

Jul 10, 2011 - Heading to Dease Lake, BC via The Cassier Highway
We left the next morning for the long trek to Dease Lake in British Columbia. We continued east on the Alaska Highway then turned south, just west of Watson Lake in the Yukon Territory, onto highway 37 "The Cassier Highway". We stopped at this intersection and filled up the motor home with diesel. Taking the Cassier would reduce our return trip by about 150 miles but is in a very remote part of British Columbia. We planned to overnight at Dease Lake RV Park which is a little more then 1/3 of the distance along the Cassier. Along the way...
