Jul 14, 2007 - Jasper to Dawson Creek BC

Campgrounds were full in Dawson Creek. However Northern Lights (Good Sam) campground did manage to squeeze us in. We were on a sidehill in the weeds, no table, in the overflow area. A long way from the bathrooms, but at least we had a place to stay and they did have Internet access. We met a nice couple, however, that were part of a caravan group of RV'ers on their way to Alaska too. That's apparently why the campgrounds were so full. Dawson Creek is mile zero (0) and beginning of the Alaska highway.

Jul 8, 2007 - Dawson Creek

Today we managed to drive from Prince George to Dawson Creek, where the 0 mile to Alaska starts. We were fortunate to find a Royal Canadian Mounted Police at the marker of the 0 mile to Alaska, the problem with the police is that John enjoyed more than I did. He was really a cute she and young. Oh Well I will find a cute one (male of course) later on, I hope! Along the way we encountered a moose in the lake drinking water, another on the road side, but he stood so still that I thought that he was a stuffed moose. We also encountered two...

Jul 1, 2007 - Whitecourt, AB to Dawson Creek, BC ~ 367 miles

We were up early, packed up the coach and headed out to get some fuel. We were off about 9 AM. The winds were intense today. The flags stood straight out along the way. They were mostly crosswinds but then became headwinds when we drove in the right direction. I was blown from the lane partly onto the shoulder a number of times. It was a long drive. We stopped in Grand Prairie, AB, for a lunch and Sock's nature break and then got back on the road. We arrived in Dawson Creek at 3 PM. We checked in at the RV Park, set up the coach and I took...

Jun 23, 2007 - Rockies

Friday the 22nd : Traveled on S on Hwy 97, saw some more bears, some nice ranches, green pastures with barns and homes tucked into the woods. We stopped at Prince George for groceries and a haircut for Hugh ($18.00), then headed E up the Frazer River on the Yellowhead Hwy #16 toward Jasper. A few miles E of Prince George the Rockies came into view, magnificent mountains. First one would be highlighted with sun and soon a rain squall would hide it from our view. On down the road a new peak would show forth its glory. We found a snowmobile...

Jun 22, 2007 - Day 11: 2000 miles completed -Now we start the Alaska Highway

Up at 6:35 and on the road at 7:35 today. This seemed to be before anyone else camped nearby was stirring. The first leg of our route was northeast out of Jasper to Hinton. This portion of the road was in a broad valley with swampy lakes and the ever growing Athabasca River. A few elk were munching on their breakfast along the verge of the highway. On the outskirts of Hinton, we turned northwest toward Grande Cache. This road was new to Dave, who had on his previous trips to Alaska, proceeded further eastward to Edmonton before turning...

Jun 20, 2007 - Starting the Alaska Highway

Today we reached the beginning of the Alaska Highway at Dawson City. We took the obligatory picture of the start of the highway (photo). We left Jasper on Monday morning and headed east for about 30 miles on Route 16. We were yet again treated to some beautiful mountain views along the road (photos). Apparently some of the sheep in the area also use the road (photo). We turned north on Route 40 and the landscape changed dramatically. We found ourselves in the rolling hills and eventually the plains to the east of the Rockies. Logging is the...

Jun 17, 2007 - Dawson Creek, BC

This is the official Mile "0" of the Alaskan Highway. Lots of RV's, campers, 5th wheels, all with the same destination. It is interesting to talk to the other travellers to compare information and we are learning alot about places to add to our "must see" list. There are several caravans of 15 to 20 motor homes travelling together. I don't think that would work for us, especially since we stay up late and get up late. They are all gone by the time we finish our first cup of coffee.

Jun 14, 2007 - Day 13 - June 14

Day 13 - June 14 Entered Alaska Highway @mile marker 0 in Dawson Creek 3070 miles into our journey. Speaking of which we had to have the oil changed before we left Dawson Creek. It was time.. We entered the Pacific Time Zone when we crossed the British Columbia border from Alberta. The sun is coming up around 4:30 a.m. and it gets dark around 10:00 p.m. We're already suffering from 3 hours jet lag - so all morning we feel like we are late for everything and in the afternoon we feel we're too early for everything. We just came upon our first...

Jun 13, 2007 - Dawson Creek, BC - Mile Zero Alaska Highway

We escaped the mosquitoes in Grande Prairie and headed northwest. We stopped at Beaverlodge; the attraction here is a beaver sculpture and we had the unexpected pleasure of meeting the designer and creative force behind this little icon. He was a lovely man and he gave us pins to remember our visit to the beaver city. We crossed into British Columbia and another time zone and in short order we were at our campground for the next two nights, Mile Zero RV Park. Dan and Jenny were out to greet us and directed us to our sites. Now, there's four...

Jun 12, 2007 - Dawson Creek BC

Traveled today thru a lot of wilderness, 200 miles with only one small town in between. Left Hinton, AB went thru Grande Cache, Grande Prairie and then on to Dawson Creek, BC. We were told we would see a lot of game, but only saw a few deer. Crossed another time zone so we are three hours behind FL now. Already a lot of daylight hours. Got up at 3:30 am and walked thru the camper and looked at clock without turning on a light! Arrived at Dawson Creek BC which is "Mile 0" of the Alaska Highway. It ends in Delta Junction, AK which is only...

We made it!!!! We arrivied in Dawson Creek at 8am PST. Light rain but what the heck! Dawson Creek is a nice size town and we look forward to going to check it out in the next few days. We don't leave here until Friday morning so we have a lot of time. Right now Dick is washing the coach and car. And I have a couple of loads in the washing machines. Our site is not vacant yet so we are making the best of our time. We have our Carvavan Leader and Tail Gunner and they seem very nice. Will have to call our "road friends" Dottie and Pete to see...

Jun 9, 2007 - Computer problems

Hey guys-- I think most of you know that I had some major computer hassles about six days out from Philly. I lost both my email program, my browser and now I think that I probably have a damaged WiFi card. I can never get more than a low signal. But I can borrow a friend's laptop and still get online via Yahoo mail. I've reconstructed the address book and I don't think I'm missing anybody. Needless to say, I've not been really happy about the situation but I fending as best I can. We're currently in Dawson Creek, BC at the Milepost 0 of the...
