Jun 1, 2008 - Arrived at Dawson Creek
Latest News – We just arrived in Dawson Creek, BC today. All is going great. RV is running great and all is well with our trainer (Wagonmaster.) We drove through Canadian Customs on Friday morning at 8 AM and they gave both of us a hard time, but nothing to find and we were out of there 30 minutes later. We spent 2 nights in Prince George and finished the 850 mile trip from the Canadian border today. The next is a 1250 mile drive back to the US in Alaska. Of course that is over a 13 days. Now that we are here, we will start taking pictures...

Jun 1, 2008 - Mile "0" - The Alaska Highway Day 1
June 1, 2008 - Mile "0" Alaska Highway Sunrise: 5:24 a.m. Sunset: 10:35 p.m. The drive from Chetwynd to Dawson Creek was a relatively short one, which was good news since we had more rain en route. The highlight of the morning trip was stopping for lunch at a small pullout next to a grocery store and having a small fox approach our truck while we ate lunch inside. Jo got some great closeup shots of the fox, but it made us nervous by being so willing to come right up next to the truck--we had been told to watch out for wild animals that seem...

Jun 1, 2008 - Dawson Creek, BC
Ok, this is the beginning of our 48 day Alaska tour as a Tailgunner with Fantasy RV Tours. It is our first day in Dawson Creek and we are here on June 1, 2008. We do not leave her until the 5th but this gives us time to fix any problems, pick up the remaining supplies, go to the bank, take pictures, get the laundry done, arrange group pictures, confirm the group dinner, and anything else we need to do before the caravan starts. Three of our caravaners arrived with us today. We have 5 more that will arrive in the next 2 days. Martha and I...

May 30, 2008 - Dawson Creek
.../continued. You guessed it! It rained throughout the night. After checking out the golf course, and discovering it was to wet, we decided to leave for our next stop. But first came the 'construction zone'. It was as we suspected, muddy, slippery, mud holes, and big machines running around all over the place! I have always said I don't know why we got a 4 wheel drive vehicle, cause we never use it! I am sure glad we had it this a.m. We managed to get through without getting stuck! But our vehicle was covered with mud! Tomorrow I will have...

May 29, 2008 - Woohoo - Mile Zero here we come!
Day 12 - a cool, cloudy 51 degrees. The terrain moved out of the plains into the forested hills - a refreshing change of scenery. This was really only a travel day, although we did see some rather unusual wildlife (see pics). We passed an elk farm just before crossing into British Columbia at 2:30. At the end of the day, we had arrived in Dawson Creek, where the Alaska Highway begins! Stayed at a very nice campground, appropriately named "Mile 0 RV Park and Campground" - but the sites were treed and almost rustic. Tomorrow the Long Trek...

May 25, 2008 - Dawson Creek, BC, Canada
Today we spent the day in Dawson Creek, BC. Our first stop was at Mile Marker “0”, the official beginning of the Alaska Highway. The marker is right in front of the Visitor Centre. There we watched a very interesting video on the building of the Alaska Highway. This was well worth the hour investment! The Alaska Highway, formerly known as the “Alcan” was a 1,523 mile highway connecting Dawson Creek, BC to Delta Junction, AK. (No one calls the highway the Alcan because it brings bad feelings because for 6 years only the military was allowed...

May 25, 2008 - Dawson Creek Mile Post Zero on the Alaska Hwy
Well we left P.G. this morning drove about 260 miles to Dawson Creek B.C. known as mile post zero. This is the start of the alaska Hwy. What beautiful drive up to Dawson. we saw hunderds of water falls, millions of small lakes and tons of rivers. There is no shortage of water up here. I don't know if Bosco is reading this but he might want to know, we saw a Grey Wolf cross the road this morning. What a great sight he was just 100 feet from the MH. It has bee raining off and n most days, but today was sunny and warm 67 nice and cool. We will...

May 24, 2008 - Dawson Creek
Left Prince George early this morning and headed up Highway 97 toward Dawson Creek – mile “0” and the beginning of the Alaska Highway. Weather started out partly sunny, but soon became mostly cloudy. Climbed up and over the mountains, and got a good look at what is described as the lowest portion of the Canadian Rockies. Snow covered, and still very impressive. We got the privilege of seeing two moose, two black bears, and three deer. The moose (we think moose-ettes) still wore their fuzzy winter coats. What fun, and from what we know, this...

May 24, 2008 - Mile 0: The Alaska Highway
Yesterday we pulled into Dawson Creek and the Mile 0 RV Park. The town was smaller than expected and the gas prices higher (over $5.25/gal. By the time you read this entry that price will probably be cheap). But there was a Wal-Mart (What else does an RVer need?) and a great restaurant. We stopped at a quaint English Pub for Fish and Chips but their cook quit that morning. The hostess suggested Mr. Mike's, which proved to be a wise choice...great food and even better service. The waitress was a delight who entertained us with her tales of...

May 23, 2008 - Mile "0" Alaskan Highway - Dawson Creek, British Columbia
We have finally made it to Mile "0" of the Alaskan Highway, only 1,190 miles to go until we reach the Alaska Border. Our travel day today was fairly easy and short. We only had to travel about 200 miles, unfortunately it rained most of the way. When we left Grand Cache this morning the temperature was 39. By the time we reached Dawson Creek it was a balmy 47. We got settled into our campsite by 2:30 and spent much of the afternoon resting. We have been on the go so much lately that we needed some rest. After supper we drove into town to...

May 22, 2008 - Red Deer, Alberta to Dawson Creek, BC
Left RV park around 6:30 AM. Found out that Terry breaks for moose. Linda in head when moose ran across the road in front of the motor home. More driving (465 miles) We did see a bison farm. The beaver picture was at Beaver Lodge. Had to get a picture - Terry and Linda have a destructive beaver in N.C. that they would like to put on "display". Stopped in Grand Prairie at a Costco (snack food attack). Road was very rough most of the day. Now in Dawson Creek, British Columbia (Beginning of the Alaskan Hwy) at Northern Lights RV Park.

May 22, 2008 - Day 10 - Dawson Creek
Since we were staying in Dawson Creek a second day, we decided to walk into town (Conrad's idea) and have breakfast. The Mile “0” Campground is located at mile 1 ½ north on the Alaska Highway, so it was a 1 ½ mile walk into town. We had a hard time finding a place to sit down and have breakfast, so we asked a woman on the street. She recommended the Co-op Cafe located at 102 Ave. and 8th Street. The breakfast there was very reasonable and very good. The woman that took our order was very nice and couldn't have been more helpful. We then...
