Dawson Creek to Fort Nelson to Laird Hot Springs Provincial Park While at Dawson Creek we met a couple from Birmingham, Alabama, Frank and Linda Reardon, also on their way to Alaska. We decided we would travel together for a while and it was a good thing for them. On Monday, about half way to Fort Nelson, they picked up a nail in their car tire. This morning they awoke to a flat tire on their bus. Fortunately it was not a nail just a leaking pressure sensor and we were able to get the tire blown back up using my air compressor. The drive...

Jul 11, 2009 - Truck Trouble!!

We are so thankful that our trip has been nearly flawless up till now, as our plans have severely changed this afternoon. Our truck is having “rear end” problems and needs a new differential. Of course we couldn’t find this out in a population center, but rather in a small town at 2 on a Saturday afternoon!! Luckily a nice gal in the visitor center found us a mechanic to look at it, but after a couple hours and a couple hundred dollars later we got a diagnosis, but no repair. The mechanic thinks we can continue for awhile, but it’s a crap...

Jul 6, 2008 - To Liard Hot Springs

Headed out on our way again. Today was in and out of rain all day long. Spotted the “wildlife” again, bears, deer, bison and even horses (although they were probably not wild ones). See so many bear we don’t make a hard effort to get pictures anymore. Road was good until we got back into the Rockies and on the old Alaskan Hwy. Proved to be some rough spots slowing us down many times to 30mph for long stretches. Along this way we unloaded weight we didn’t know was extra. Aug 20, 2006 - Laird River Hotsprings

This morning started in Fort Nelson, and ended at the Laird River Hotsprings, a lot happened in between. We stopped for gas at the rustic Tetsa river Guest Ranch and Campground. They had great pastrys here. We also met a group of folks from Peace River, Alberta, Canada while we were gassing up. On the road we saw a buffalo, herds of goats and a few caribou. Jun 26, 2006 - A soak in the Hot Springs

The day started out kinda cloudy, but turned out to be pretty nice. We only had about a four hour drive until our next stop, so we didn't rush to get going. We had barely got back on the highway when we spotted a black bear dining along the road. There wasn't much traffic yet, so we pulled over to the side and got some pictures. It didn't seem to bother her as she just kept on munching. That's about it for the wildlife this day. Oh, we did see a couple of sheep and one lone caribou. May 15, 2006 - Fort Nelson to Liard Hot Springs

The trip through the Canadian Rockies was great. Warm, sunny weather and very little traffic. I could cruise along at 45 mph and not hold anyone up. Wildlife was all over the place. I saw two wolves, 2 fox and a large cat which slinked into the ditch as I approached. None of them was very photogenic. Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park was open for the season so I stayed the night. Pretty nice place. No TV, no radio and only a handful of campers.
