Aug 8, 2011 - Cache Creek, BC.

Not much to report today. We drove about 200 miles to Cache Creek. The roads are good and the 200 miles was an easy trip. Had a Lynx run accross the road in front of us. The first one of those we have seen. One thing we did today that we have not done on this trip is turn the Air on. We had the heater on this morning and by the time we got to Cache Creek we were warm. Seems like we have found SUMMER! However, we are not in a hurry to get home to 110 degree days. The RV park is very full. Lots of kids. Our guess is that this is their...

Jun 1, 2011 - Cache Creek, British Columbia

We awoke to a marginally pleasant morning. It wasn't raining. We enjoyed a leisure morning and took our time about leaving. BIG MISTAKE! We were a bit anxious about crossing the border. We have concerned ourselves about our food, the pet food, the pets, etc. We have never had difficulty with the Canadian border patrol. Usually, it's the standard questions about drugs and weapons and then, "Have a good trip." NOT TODAY! We did the right things by having our passports readily available and turned off the diesel engine. Didn't have sunglasses...

August 26, 2010 day 82 Prince George to Cache Creek, BC After a few last minute things to take care of, we left the camp grounds about 10 am. We made good time despite the rain, heavy at times along with lighting. We are spending the night at the Riverside Campground, one Kilometer east of Cache Creek on Hwy 1. It was very windy with a little rain and Lighting after we arrive but everything calmed down about 8 pm. We have been in contact with the Normans and the Morrisons (fellow member of the Concord Caravaners RV Club) who are in...

Monday, August 9, 2010 We slept a little later but still were able to leave the Sintich RV Park by 9:10 am. It was cooler with 56˚ and it was cloudy. We were still retracing our route by staying on Highway 97. Eleven times we needed to slow down for construction. Three times we had to stop because part of the construction had only one road opened. It was so nice to have several passing lanes because there were many logging trucks, other commercial trucks, and other RVs. We had a few areas of sprinkling and some rain. In Williams Lake we...

Our Alaska Adventure

Aug 4, 2010 - Roadside Attractions

Today was a thirteen hour driving day, 620 miles. We saw many roadside attractions. Every small town seems to be famous for something around here. In Houston we sent out our e-mails and saw the world's largest fly rod. We saw two cars that had real blooming flowers growing in soil all over them in Burns Lake. Quesnel had the world's largest gold pan, complete with a huge hunk of fake gold and a shovel and pickaxe(not to scale). We saw wooden Mr.PG in Prince George with a hard hat and holding a Canadian flag. 100 Mile House was supposedly...

We had to get on the road again today - these one-nighters are really tiring. We are staying at the Historic Hat Creek Ranch. After we got there we went on a stagecoach ride. David and the other guys were like little kids riding shotgun on top of the stagecoach. They rode us around the ranch and we stopped at a replica of a First Nation camp. A young man was there to tell us about the way his people ate, processed their food, made clothing, etc. He was very informative. In the evening we all met at a pavilion on the grounds and had root...

North to Alaska-2010

Jun 26, 2010 - Sea to Sky

We took a taxi from the hotel to Downtown Harley near Seattle, and arrived a little before they opened. We learned that the law was particular about riders wearing DOT helmets and felt it necessary to buy a couple and put our skid lids away. Later I learned that I liked the face cover on the DOT helmet after a couple of days of wind burn on my face. We took Interstate 5 through Blaine to cross into Canada. The wait to get through customs took about 30 minutes. There is no direct route through Vancouver, but the Garmin came in handy. We...

Friday, June 25, 2010 The Riverside RV Resort and Campsite was very nice with its satellite friendly sites. Our only difficulty was the neighbors next to us. Each night they would come out to their picnic table, which was beside our bedroom. The 2 men and 1 woman would talk loudly, laugh/giggle, and sometimes swear until about 1:00 am. They didn’t sound like the kind of people we could ask to be quieter. Since it was for only 2 nights we decided to ignore the situation. We think they were in Whistler to do construction work. Our unhooking...

Our Alaska Adventure

Jun 24, 2010 - Canada

We all made it through customs at the border today without any problems except having to give up some fruit and veggies. The trip from the border to Cache Creek, BC was beautiful with some really great scenery. Penny saw a Moose. She was so excited. We are in a campground with Internet so I am able to do a post. We will continue north tomorrow towards Prince William and then head west towards Alaska. I was checking our total mileage from Fla. since May 18 and Penny and I have traveled 5,739 miles. The unfortunate part is that the big white...

May 23, 2010 Today is the first real long day of the trip as we are to travel from Surrey to Cache Creek a distance of 120 miles. As we left, we passed through a few towns and then really got to the gorgeous scenery just past Abbotsford (the raspberry capital of Canada). As we drove on Trans Canada 1, the major east west highway of the country, we got our first glimpse of a large muddy fast moving river. It was the Fraser River. We would drive through the Fraser River Canyon and see beautiful mountains shrouded in clouds with the clouds...

May 23, 2010 - Traveling to Cache Creek, BC

May 23 – On the road to Cache Creek, British CoIumbia Hooked up with aII our Beaver buddies at 7 Feathers Casino in CanyonviIIe, Oregon on May 22nd. On the way we passed Grant’s Pass (who was Grant and why does he deserve a town? A point to ponder for Iater research). Passing here we saw Highway 199, and that reminded us of a trip we took with Ethan when he was about 14 or so. We went to Port AngeIes to visit our dear friends the CiarIos. On the way home, we took 199 over to Highway 1. It foows the Smith River, which is one of the few...
