First off, we were scheduled for the Lady Rose cruise but she had a prior booking for a wedding party so the stately Frances Barkley, a stout packet freighter, was our "ride" for the day. Built in 1958, she has an overall length of 128 feet, a beam of 24 ft. and a draft of 9.5 ft. and can carry as many as 200 passengers and 100 tons of cargo. We figured there were 60 people onboard for our trip and quite a bit of cargo including barrels of fuel, lumber, groceries, mail and a huge gangplank most probably being used for someone's dock to...
