Jun 4, 2017 - Heading North

We left CA on 5/21 and headed north through northern CA, Oregon and Washington. We wanted to get out of the US before the Memorial Day weekend since we didn't have reservations and we figured campgrounds would be full. Although we didn't make time for any diversions, we could see Mt. Shasta, Mt. Hood and Mt. Ranier as we drove north along I-5. Pretty spectacular mountains! We crossed the border into British Columbia on 5/25 at Abbottsford, BC. We've entered Canada many times and each time the customs officer asks different questions. This...

Aug 26, 2015 - Abbottsford, British Columbia, Canada

Friday, August 21, 2015 – Keremeos, BC, Canada Marilyn and I went and played Bingo while Lowell read. This is a slow, restful day for us because tomorrow we travel again. Saturday, August 22, 2015 –Vancouver, BC, Canada We left Keremeos after breakfast. We enjoy our visit with Marilyn and will miss her. The drive was a bit smoky but not bad at all. The smoke is from the fires in Washington. We heard all the port of entries were closed east of Sumas, Washington. We arrived late afternoon in Vancouver after stopping at the Bigfoot Factory...

Apr 18, 2011 - More visiting with family & friends

We surprised Jerry and Myrna Derkatz by arriving, unknown to them, at their regular morning coffee spot (McDonalds). We warmed the seats there a good 2 hours while we caught up on old times -- had a great visit. Elroy and Dianne Nelson were there too. In the afternoon, Dale and LaVerne picked us up and we went to visit in Surrey. We stopped to see my niece (Carol & Bob's daughter) Sherene at her place of work then went to visit my sister Carol and husband, Bob. Their daughter and her husband (Kari & Glen) came over to visit as well. We all...

Apr 15, 2011 - Reconnecting with family & friends!

We have been busy catching up with old friends and family. You can see the pictures -- we had a nice visit with Mel Linn, wonderful supper and visit with brother Dale and his wife LaVerne. Another day we visited Elroy and Dianne Nelson, old friends from Melfort. We were going to try and surprise Jerry and Myrna Derkatz by being at the favorite Coffee House (MacDonalds') when they arrived, but they fooled us -- they didn't show. So we'll try again on Monday. Then we went out for supper with my Uncle Jack & Auntie Dot Leathem -- my mom's...

Apr 11, 2011 - Stopping at Ione's in Lake Stevens, Wa

We did stop overnight at Ione and Les's in Lake Stevens, Washington. We had a great visit and it was so interesting to see her craft work area! She has sooooooo much on the go. She was getting things ready for a craft sale in a couple of days. We picked up one of her CDs -- the music of her and Les. What a lady and so much on the go for coming 80 years old. Les is 99 and still climbs a big flight of stairs to go to bed. What a couple!

May 17, 2008 - Abbottsford, BC

Friday was a leisurely evening with a meal at Bob's best burgers before the border crossing, then crossing at Sumas (a non event). We did some shopping at Homeless Depot and Wally World before heading North. We noted some differences.... Wal-mart is a little further along with their greener packaging and some items that we are used to finding are not available. All the necessaries are. Jim's commment on Home Depot is watch out for the prices!. Some items are priced just like the items in the USA. Some items are 2 to 3 times the USA price....

Alaska 2008

Mar 24, 2008 - Back to the Mainland

Left Nanaimo and headed north to Parksville and Qualicum Beach area. Looking for another location to hang out for about a month or so, we are thinking the month of October. Although Qualicum Beach was quite quaint, we did prefer Parksville. There is a population of about 11,000 and this city has the highest elderly population in Canada at 56%. Not sure we are going to fit into that statistic but we would only be there for about one month. The site is right on the ocean. We headed back to Nanaimo so we could catch the 3:00 ferry back to the...
