Aug 14, 2012 - 100 Mile House, BC

Tue: 14 Aug: Today was a much more reasonable drive, just shy of 200 miles in two easy 100 mile shifts with lunch in between. This is much more our style of travel and we feel much better having done it this way. We left the Treasure Cove Casino parking lot about half past eight and drove a whopping 2½ miles to a Flying J where we topped off Carpe's tank. Bob got rid of the last of our Canadian currency as we don't expect to make any more large purchases on this side of the border. Filling took a bit longer than we anticipated so we...

2012 Travels

Jun 2, 2012 - Dawson Creek At Last

Woo hoo, we have free wi-fi tonight at the Bee Lazee RV Park just south of Prince George by a few miles! We had a nice drive today from Lac da Hache to Prince George through Williams Lake and Quesnel. It was about 200 miles today. Lots of rolling hills, beautiful forests and pasture land and fields of crops. I slept during a lot of the trip. Didn't get a good nights sleep last night so I was rather sleepy today. I would nap for awhile then wake up and see more trees and hills and look for wildlife and go back to sleep. I did see a black...

May 31, 2012 - From Hope to Lac da Hache

After a fairly late start this morning we left Hope in a light shower, which made the climb up the mountains and the drive down them just a bit hairy! Keeping up with Norm made it even more so! Norm took the lead today and set a steady pace. Our late start this morning was due to my insistence that I needed to make two posts to this blog. I felt terrible that I was so far behind. We got all packed up and then drove over to McDonald's for some free Wi-fi and an iced coffee, large, sugar free vanilla. So I uploaded two blog posts and a total...

May 28, 2009 - 100 Mile House, BC

We stopped at the 100 mile house for an overnight stay, it is a convenient stop along the way to Dawson Creek the start of the Alaskan highway. The 100 mile house was the location of a stagecoach stop on the way to the goldfields in the north. There are a number of these locations along the west access route ( RT 97) such as the 70 mile house, 150 mile house, etc. The 100 mile house actually is a small town consisting of several hotels, grocery stores and gas stations. Next stop Prince George

Adventures in 2009

May 15, 2009 - Mothers Day Weekend

We all went to 100 Mile House last weekend, primarily to say goodbye to my mother, who passed away in March. She wanted to be reunited with my father and finally got her wish after 22 years. At the same time, we had a family reunion which was such a great time, as those of you who were also there can confirm. I really enjoyed catching up with all the family news. On the way home, we met a fellow traveller who let me take his photo several times. Very obliging. We were also very lucky to be going by Mount Robson on one of the few days that...

Jul 31, 2008 - 100 Mile House, British Columbia, Canada

*****Click on Canada or North America map****** Heading to 100 Mile House on Rt97 goes by a lot of farm land. Don't know why they call it 100 Mile House since it is more than 100 miles from the border. Fruit is the main products here consisting of apples, appricots and cherries (lots of cherry festivals). They use a lot of water irrigation on their crops due to the high plains deserts. Going north on Rt97 we came across a lot of inclines and declines ranging from 6% to 10% grades. 10% grade is a steep grade and then a couple areas there...

Jul 8, 2007 - First few nights in BC

I finally have WiFi that's working so I thought I'd get an update out. We're in Steward, BC right now. Since I last updated we went from Seattle, to 100 Mile House, BC, to Hazelton, BC to here. A lot of driving, but we're enjoying it. Let me take it one step at a time. On the drive up we started to get a taste of the incredible scenery we were going to encounter in BC. We drove thru a town called Yale that sits in a valley with mountains that just soar up on either side. The drive was about 6 hours and we stayed outside of 100 Mile House...

May 15, 2007 - Hope to Lac La Hache

We have been having the most amazing weather - 75 degrees was the high yesterday....Wow we didn't expect it to get this warm at this time of the year. We left Hope this morning at 8:00 am and were not too sure of how far we were going to travel in the day, all we knew was that we wanted to travel further than Cache Creek. The road (The 1) from Hope runs along the Fraser River and goes through the Fraser Canyon. They have had above normal snowfalls in the catchment area, and now the Fraser River is in danger of flooding her banks... so...

Living our RV Dream!

Jul 9, 2005 - Burnaby to Lac La Hache

June 28 - July 6 Burnaby Caribou RV Park Mad rush to get packed up and out of our house by noon on June 28th. Piled everything into the RV, we can sort it out later. Was nice to get into the RV Park as now we could concentrate on the Trip versus getting moved out. Met Peter Mercer from Ontario who has the exact same RV. Turns out he bought it from the same dealer that our original owner purchased from. Was good to get some inside tips from someone who had owned the vehicle for 3 years. We had hoped to have some relaxing time over the long...

Jun 8, 2005 - Going North in B.C.

Yesterday we had a good time visiting the Minter Gardens and Bridal Veil Falls (pictured above). It was cool and overcast, but pleasant when the sun did come out. We went to the falls first; its about a quarter mile walk to the falls through a dense forest with very tall, old growth trees covered in moss, but we also saw beautiful, delicate, little wild flowers and gobs of ferns on the forest floor. Nature at it's very best. By the time we walked back out, it was clearing, and I wanted to visit the gardens before we had any of the showers...

Jun 22, 2004 - The Hospital

Well, I arrived in the hospital today - 7 and a half hours on a bus from Vancouver. Was actually not a bad trip - quite peaceful and scenery was stunning, although the bus driver got a little close to the kerb at times when he was going quite fast. The place itself is... bigger than I thought it is, but still not big. The people seem really nice and friendly, food isn't bad and hospital itself quite busy. There won't actually be any theatre slots while I'm here as the surgeon's going away but should still be enough to do. The doctor in...
