Jun 10, 2008 - Day 59 Waterton NP Canada
Day 59 Tuesday 10th June Waterton NP Canada page 60 A4 Wow, we have finally made it into Canada. After a short drive we were at the Canadian border. The border staff were very friendly and relaxed about us entering the country; a few questions, any alcohol, tobacco, firearms on board, how long were we staying, are we planning to sell anything in Canada and were we returning the RV back to the USA. Our Passports were stamped and we were on our way. The Waterton NP is an extension of the Glacier NP. In 1932, the two parks joined to become the...

Jun 2, 2008 - Montana to Canada
Larry and I are having a wonderful time! We drove for about 3 days through Kansas, Nebraska, and Wyoming, then stopped in Hardin, Montana and fly fished on the Big Horn River. Larry caught a couple of nice trout, I didn't - but it was still fun! We arrived in Glacier National Park (St. Mary Lake area) on Friday and met Mike and Susan. The mountains are beautiful - we drove around the park, spotted Elk, 2 Grizzly's and 1 Black Bear, and lots of little white dots that Larry and Mike say are Big Horn Sheep and Mountain Goats - Susan and I...

May 27, 2008 - Waterton Lakes NP Canada
It was raining while we were preparing to leave Glacier; then it stopped as we were leaving and we had sunshine for the trip to Waterton Lakes NP, Canada. Waterton is the Canadian part of the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park. It was a short trip (about 70 miles)and we had nice weather. Then it rained the next day. The roads to Cameron Lake and Red Rock Canyon were closed due to flooding. We did see some buffalo. We also saw our first grizzly bears of the trip: a sow and two yearling cubs on the edge of the highway as we were...

May 13, 2008 - Waterton Lakes
We were required to take a 25 mile detour from our oiginally planned routing into Canada when we discovered that the remote border crossing we had planned to use was closed. We crossed the border south of Cardston, Alberta and continued on to Waterton Lakes National Park, home of the scenic Prince of Wales hotel.

Nov 4, 2007 - Waterton Lakes National Park
Sunday November 4...8:10pm What strange weather we had last night. It was supposed to go down to about 2 degrees so we left the electric heater on. We woke up around 2am to a loud crash that sounded very close to us. There was a lot of wind, yet it was 22 degrees inside Sherman! We turned off the little electric heater, and went back to bed. In the morning, it had got back to about 10 degrees inside, and was noticeably colder outside. Sure enough, there was a big tree branch that had crashed down just beside us (see pictures). We went for a...

Aug 9, 2007 - High Tea at the Prince
On Thursday August 9, we booked a trip to Canada on one of the historic Glacier Red Busses . Our bus was a 1936 White, one year older than 'Hollywood' the 1937 Yellow Bus we took at Yellowstone. Unlike the Yellowstone busses which were sold and left the park for 50 years, the red busses were not sold, but were out of service for some time while they were refurbished. The work was done free by Ford Motor Company which used it as a tax writeoff and a lot of good P.R. The tour leaves the park and drives throught the little town of Babb,...

Jul 9, 2007 - Waterton Lakes National Park, Alberta
Waterton Lakes National Park (Canadian side of Glacier National Park) was not on our schedule however turned out to be a very pleasant surprise (a sleeper!). Reason, while visiting Gary and Susie in Couer d' Alene, ID they called a friend (Dan) who had camped three months in Alaska last year and he decided to come over with Alaska information. But after a few minutes the conversation turned to his two extra tickets to the Calgary Stampede (Chuckwagon races one night and the Rodeo the next afternoon)and in essence we had two days to fill in....

Wednesday May 16th - Day 14 - Mile 3327 Before heading for Waterton Lakes National Park we decided to drive the few miles back to Head-Smashed-In Buffalo jump to get a photo of the building itself (we added the photo to yesterday's entry.) We were rewarded with a sighting of a large male gray wolf in full coat loping over the prairie - very exciting. Back on Canada Rte 3 we passed an enormous wind farm - looked like it stretched about thirty miles with at least a thousand windmills. Lots of energy cleanly produced and ecologically sound -...

Aug 13, 2006 - Going to the Sun, then to Canada...
This was a lovely Sunday in NW Montana, the perfect day for a drive in the mountains. We set out for Glacier National Park in the morning headed for the scenic "Going to the Sun Road." This road winds 30 some miles through the mountains and valleys of the park. The road is windy and there is a limit of 21 feet on the vehicles that can travel it. We took a rental car on this trip and left the RV in the campground. I am so glad we did, cause though the road is well maintained, it is narrow, curvey and steep is many places- it would not be fun...

Aug 3, 2006 - Waterton National Park, Alberta, Canada
August 3, 2006: What a spectacular day! The weather has been perfect throughout our trip, and today was no exception. We got up in the morning and drove into Waterton National Park for breakfast in the little village in the park. We walked around town for about an hour browsing the gift shops, then did some siteseeing. We first drove to little Cameron Lake, then to Red Rock Canyon. We took a short hike through Red Rock Canyon, then Steve and I did separate jaunts. Steve went down into the Canyon (only a walk of a few feet down) to look...

Jul 3, 2006 - We have arrived in Waterton NP, Alberta, Canada
Our trip across the border was an experience. We were randomly selected to be searched. The border agent walked thru our camper and opened all the cabinets and drawers. We weren't carrying any contraband so we were sent on our way. We arrived in Waterton-Glacier National Peace Park on the 3rd and settled into our campsite. This Nat'l Park is actually shared by Canada (Waterton) and the US (Glacier). On the 4th we took a boat tour of the Upper Lakes, it travels from Waterton across the border to Montana. With a passport or proper...

May 22, 2006 - Waterton National Park
End of May and time for us to get out of Calgary for a long weekend! So we headed down to Waterton National Park which is on the US Border to get away, bit of camping and hopefully a bit of wildlife viewing. It was great - we parked up down little side tracks, cooked up and basically just relaxed with deer & sheep cruising around (didn't see anything more exciting than that unfortunately - bears in Canada......it's a myth my friend!) We did get a little nervous one night though when we were cooking up quite late, right on bear feeding time,...
