Aug 14, 2016 - St. Albert grain elevator and Lacombe chapel

We took a leisurely day around St. Albert today, the weather is just great - shorts weather and blue skies. We've had no rain since we've been here. We first went to the Musee - historical museum - it had interesting displays but was not interactive. Then we went to the historic grain elevators and train station and were given a very informative tour. These are wooden elevators. The first was built in 1906 by a company Brackman Ker, it is covered in tin and was run by a gasoline engine. Not so safe. The second was built by Alberta Wheat...

Aug 13, 2016 - West Edmonton Mall and High Level Bridge Streetcar

This is a good RV park, nearly full, but we have 50 amp and it's gravel. They had rain a few days ago but it's dried up. This is a perfect day, sun, warm temps around 85 degrees. We first took the High Bridge trolley that gave a view of Edmonton and the river from the height of an old railroad bridge. There was supposed to be a trolley barn museum with a movie about the history as well as narration on the ride. Didn't happen, this was the day of the Fringe Festival and the trolley was loaded with people each way, there were all sorts of...

Aug 12, 2016 - Hydro hot

Ray tried out the hydro hot the night we were in Shelby, it did not fire and there was diesel pouring out. I called and found a repair service in Edmonton and also a mobile repair that were hydro hot certified, Alberta Chassis was willing to look at it Friday on our way into the Edmonton campground. We drove east of Edmonton past massive oil storage tanks and refineries, through extensive road construction, out a country road to a farm with RV's in the yard. The couple used to have a large business until the economy tanked but he works on...

May 30, 2010 - Shop, Buy, Move!

In truth it could be a hell'va lot better morning, we delayed an extra month in the south just to avoid the very thing that's happening to us right now, yes it's the dreaded "S" four letter word, and no one doesn't need paper to finish the job. The weather guesser promised snow last night but dissolving in the rain today, small comfort as far as I'm concerned!, jeez, do we have to stay in Arizona all year to avoid the stuff! Had a quick visit with the grandkids and after being away for a few years I'm sure they were wondering who we were....

May 23, 2010 - On the Ouimet Farm and a new house!

Maybe I should go back to calling this the Alberta Report in the interim as we are really not roving so much these days. We arrived back at the farm outside of Villeneuve last Monday afternoon having made the trek all the way from Calgary and killing several hundred bugs, man, must be a Canadian thing! It seems we arrived at the end of the glorious warm spell, from Monday on it's been rapidly going downhill, guess I forgot we were coming into a long week end, of course it turns cold, wet and windy! Matter of fact they're calling for -1°...

Nov 25, 2009 - Nerves at a Mac

Well we are still in St.Albert and the nerves are at a Mac. Sheldon hasn't slept in two days and is grumpier than a black bear after waking up after a winter of hibernation. Alana's nerves are all over the map, trip of a life time, seeing her baby (Spence)its been almost 5 months, forgetting items, packing items, leaving items, taking items. Grandma is Multi tasking, cooking a x-mas dinner in Nov. Poppa is having a beer ( no stress ). Flight is tommorrow. -5 in St.Albert, plus 32 in Sydney. And you are asking WHY we are going?

May 25, 2009 - Heading Out

Another week of visiting with friends for lunch and story telling. We had an afternoon with folks who we meet in Great Falls, who are from Edmonton and who also had a motorhome. They are selling their coach and going to rent a condo instead. We had a yummy lunch on a local golf course that was very empty because of the snow and cold. I was back to the dentist to get my new chompers. I was very weary because whether it is my glasses or my teeth they never seem right in the beginning. This time the teeth were good but I just have to get my...

May 17, 2009 - Farm visit and geocaching

OK, where is the Spring!! We came back to Canada looking to enjoy the spring-like weather and what do we get .......SNOW and rain!! The weather has been dull and cool so doing anything outside has not been pleasant. I have been at the dentist to get “new chompers” so that takes multiple visits and I have just one more left. I thought about getting them in Mexico but was a little dubious but the cost would have been half the cost. But I choose to have them made in Canada instead . So I will have a big bright shiney new smile soon. Dale was...

May 10, 2009 - Mothers Day

This is the end of a wonderful day and a fun week. We have been searching for a house, condo or townhouse while the market prices are relatively low. We are not sure what we want and if we want to live in it when we return after our adventures. Our realtor sent numerous suggestions with the parameters we gave him. The price, the location and the size. Each morning when we opened our computer there were several possible selections. Dale and I made our choices for those selections, eliminated some and then drove to our choices and looked at...

May 3, 2009 - Still on The Farm

Well, I have no pictures this time because the camera has been MIA. As we began to look at a new carmera we were hoping that it would turn up.......luckly it did. After logging the lose with the RCMP, it was under the seat of the truck (not when I looked!!) Our hosts Marg and Ralph left for Great Falls for service on their 5th wheel. Dale did some work on their garage door, some wireing for the son of Marg. here on the farm. He also watered and fed the critters ( 2 dogs and 4 cats ). I on the other hand did geocaching!!! It is great to get...

Apr 26, 2009 - On the Farm

The ear piercing and tatoos are all part of the farm life right, yes, if you're a cow!! the smell of burnt hair (branding) the bawling of the cows from the piercings of their ears with a tag and the kicking and commotion that happeneds when they are stick several needles, just when they thought it couldn't get any worse. It's all very interesting to this city gal like me. I went out the the pens just to have a look. I walked up very quietly and peered over the face to find 50 cows staring back at me. I'm sure they were saying "how did you...

Apr 19, 2009 - Old Home Week

As we missed last Sunday in the milieu of arrival back to home land I guess I’d better make the effort to get out an update today. We arrived back in Alberta a week ago last Friday but didn’t get any further than Lethbridge partly because of weather and partially because friends that we were going to visit in High River weren’t home. Saturday we made it to Edmonton to join in on Easter dinner with Don & Linda, so that was the start of a hectic few days of visiting and catching up, which hasn’t ended yet. Lynz was next on the list and we...
