May 13, 2012 - Red Deer

Home Sweet Home! Well, another successful road trip with lots of good memories. We never come home with much that was purchased along the way. To me, & I'm sure that Brian would agree, it's much more about the experiences we had during the trip. It's not about getting from point A to point B, but rather what's in between point A & B & all the memories that we have from those times. Brian & I both agree that South Padre Island was a highlight and of course the music festival in New Orleans.

Road Trip 2012

Apr 2, 2012 - Red Deer

Hello everyone! Busy tying up loose ends today in anticipation of leaving tomorrow a.m (Apr.2/2012). We have appointment for new car mtnc. in Calgary tomorrow @ 10:15. Car is idling too fast @ cold start. Hopefully it won't take too long & we can be on our way. Planning on making it into the states by tomorrow night (maybe Shelby, MT.) I may or may not make daily entries on this journal (depends on how much is happening & if we have nightly access to computer connection). We are heading south to Texas through Montana, North Dakota, South...

Road Trip 2012

Jul 5, 2011 - Canada

Left St. Mary headed to the Canadian Border crossing at Port of Piegan. Registered my 2 shotguns with the US Border Patrol (good recommendation from my cousin Jim when he went up there) then crossed over and had to get out and do the paperwork in person with the Canadian Border Patrol and pay a $25.00 Canadian import fee, but it went fairly quickly. We were approved and moved out, a lady on a motorcycle took our picture at the Welcome to Alberta sign. From there we proceeded up highway 2 and stopped at Nanton, Alberta at a small cafe called...

Jun 20, 2011 - Red Deer

We(Joanne) decided she didn't need to see the Edmonton Mall after all. So we decided to take it easy on our way to Dawson Creek. We only went about 205 miles today, but were glad to get away from the campground we were at in Fort Macleod. Way to rainy, muddy and lousy Internet service to boot!!! The trip up to "Red Deer" was without incident, and not much scenery to look at or take pictures of, but upon arriving at "The Westerner" campgrounds were pleasantly surprised. It is one of the best campgrounds we have ever been to. Great sites, a...

Feb 25, 2011 - Home

Still the 24th Feb! Still the 24th Feb '11. Crossed over the international date line you know. Got on the plane, settled into our seats. Ate a meal. Chicken or beef. Had a glass of white wine. Margret a glass of red wine. Read, watched a movie. Slept. Ate breakfast. Landed in L.A. 9 1/2 hours later. I didn't mention it but in Fiji, they selected a few people randomly and did a body search. Plus side of that, after the search they get to pass all the lineup for the plane and load first. Maybe next time I will request a body search and...

May 11, 2010 - Day 41, HOME

HOME SWEET HOME! Well, the trip from Sandpoint, Idaho to home was relatively uneventful. However there was an exception. After putting on 9000 miles on this road trip, and going through 3 border checkpoints (1 U.S./Canada, 2 Mexican border patrols in Texas) where we were given not even a second glance & also being given a break on a minor traffic infraction in Arizona we arrive at the Canada/U.S. border & go through the Canadian customs. We hand over our Canadian passports, the agent asks a few questions & we answer all in complete honesty...

Apr 16, 2010 - Red Deer, Alberta

Spent the nite in very nice Rv Park here.........a little on edge last nite. Guess we looked like criminals so they had us pull into a large barn and went about going thru the trailer and the pick-up before letting us into Canada. Good roads for traveling but food & fuel not always real handy. Starting to drive on top half of fuel tank...No I did not run out of gas but got close a couple of times. Hope to reach Dawson Creek today which is the start of the Alaska Hwy.

Nov 4, 2009 - Heading north

Today we said good bye to Jason & Amanda and sweet little Owen. It has been great spending time with our grandson and we will miss him as we head home. A short drive to Red Deer today to spend a couple days with Aaron. Michelle is still in the Philippines with her dad visiting friends there so Aaron has been batching for a couple weeks. He will appreciate the company. It's a sunny day today and we see some combines out trying to get the last of the crops in. Hopefully they will get done before the snow flies.

Oct 1, 2009 - First day of riding done!

Okay, it was only 150km, as far as Red Deer. We just wanted to have a good start on Friday morning with Cranbrook as our destination. And...of course...Judy wanted to visit her parents. I could have went farther, until I sat in the lazy-boy. Maybe it was the 8 hours at the office first. Tomorrow we will include some pictures of the loaded motorcycle.

Apr 8, 2009 - The Final Leg - Calgary to Red Deer, Alberta

Comming across the Rocky Mountains was pretty cold at the higher elevations where there was 3-4 feet of snow on the ground. The roads were clear though and the below zero wind chill was short lived most times. This final leg of our trip was from Calgary to Red Deer was perhaps the coldest. We waited until nearly 1:00 PM before the temperature crept above 2 or 3 C. It was only 180 km but we stopped 3 times to warm up. At least it was not snowing. It is always nice to get back home but we also have a feeling of sadness that the trip is over,...

Oct 9, 2008 - Day 32

Well guys there's nothing much to report today as we only spent the day travelling from Fort Macleod to Red Deer. Even though our trip was a little under 3 hours we had allowed most of the day so we could stop over and see the sights of Calgary. Well there really where not that many sights, we headed first to the Olympic Stadium and after a couple of pictures and five minutes looking around we had seen enough to last us a lifetime so we headed into Calgary itself and I shit you not guys there was nothing to see, the place was like Ballarat...
