Jul 28, 2011 - Kids are starting to come back

So Amberlea and Donovan came home unexpectedly yesterday and now the race is on to finish cleaning up the house, buying groceries, washing laundry and everything else that needs to happen before we leave Saturday morning. Going to be a long couple of days, but it'll be well worth it!

Jul 27, 2011 - 3 days to go . . .

Counting down the minutes, just about, as we make it through the last three days until we leave on Saturday, July 30. Mike is finishing his last day of work till after the September long weekend and I'm harassing people for the census for the last time today. Need to pick up groceries, tires for the trailer, batteries for all the assorted toys the kids are bringing and wait for the kids to get home so they can pack their clothes and entertainment for the truck.

Jul 26, 2011 - Car seat ready to go

Managed to find a car seat tray (with fisher price ocean wonders, no less!) for Jainalee that clips on and it cost me less than $20 thankfully. So she is all set now to sit in her car seat and keep busy for hours on end, we hope :D

Jul 25, 2011 - Thank you Grandma!

So my wonderful mother-in-law took the time to stop in to Michael's today and bought us four lap trays for the kids to use on the trip. Now I just need to see if I can find one that'll clip onto Jainalee's seat so she can't turn it upside down and we are set! I also love that she bought four different colours so there is no confusion about who belongs to what :D She knows our kids well!

Jul 24, 2011 - Trailer wiring and last minute details

So this weekend Mike has been playing with trailer wiring and a few other little projects, in between taking an EMR course at NAIT and whatever else that needs to get done around the house. Looks like he finally figured out what the deal with the trailer wires are and just needs a few minutes to fix it. Now to see how he fares fixing/replacing his high pressure oil pump in the truck . . . I'm not terribly confident that he is going to have time to do all these projects he's left (and some of which have thrown themselves on him) AND make a...

Jul 23, 2011 - Testing out the camera

Testing out our new camera bought for this trip since Mike doesn't believe my current one could do everything he wanted, he might be right . . . But don't tell him I said that! We also bought each of the kids a waterproof (to 10ft) Olympus Stylus 550WP which even came with a FREE 2GB card, rechargeable battery and only for $100!!! Ssssshhhhhhhhh, don't tell them . . . it's their birthday presents (early for Amberlea). They'll get to pick out their cases and a new set of ear phones each next Friday before we leave so they can tell their own...

Jul 22, 2011 - To buy cameras or not . . .

We are thinking about buying each of the kids a camera to bring on our trip to take their own pictures with and a journal to keep track of the things they do along the way. This will be their birthday gift this year depending on how much money we spend on them. I think we can get pretty good ones for about $50 though, so I'm happy about that. Mike got shelves in the trailer for the kids clothes and I was so pleased since they looked exactly like I pictured them in my mind. Then he used some plywood to make shelves in our cupboard for me and...

Jul 20, 2011 - Finally got the itinerary written . . . in the journal

So we've had (ok, I've had) most of this trip planned for months now, ever since we lost our child in November because of a miscarriage and I decided an adventure was in order. Today I finally put up the itinerary for all to see and I'm happy to keep you posted as we make our way from place to place. Please feel free to make suggestions about places we should stop, if you've got a good one.

Jul 19, 2011 - Got all my maps!

So excited that we finally got all our maps together. Picked up the last three we needed from AMA today - Nova Scotia, South Dakota and Alberta. I guess the last one is important if we want to make it back home . . . The lady even gave me tour books for the western and maritime provinces. I'm already excited about planning our adventure up to Alaska and we haven't even left for this one yet!

Jul 18, 2011 - Getting ready to go

We are getting ready for our trip out east and putting the final touches on planning our adventure. Started sorting through the maps today so I can get the few that we are missing. Looks like Nova Scotia, South Dakota and Alberta are all we need. I'm not sure 12 days is enough time to get all the last minute details tied up . . .
