Jun 7, 2013 - Calgary, AB - Friday, Day 7

June 7, 2013. The Calgary West Campground has a shuttle into the city. We boarded it at 10:00 am along with several other campers. The campground is located very near the Olympic Park. Calgary hosted the Winter Olympics in 1988. The ride into the city rode along a section of the Bow River, which in this area has a nice river walk. The shuttle dropped us off at the Glenbow Museum on 9th Avenue SE. We had all day to walk around the city before the shuttle would pick us up at the same location about 6:30 pm. The new Calgary Tower was across...

North to Alaska 2013

Jun 6, 2013 - Thursday Day 6

June 6, 2013. In Great Falls, it is 66 degrees at 9:00 am. We head out on I-15 North. This is a nice road. After having the Roadtrek serviced and the front end aligned and wheels balanced, this is great! If anyone reading this is in the Great Falls area and their GM vehicle needs service, I highly recommend City Motors Co. The folks are friendly and their work is efficient. We entered Canada about 11:30 am. How did I forget to take a picture of the crossing?? It was 64 degrees. We continued north on Alberta Hwy. 4 and stopped at the...

May 23, 2013 - Clumsy coming home - Kadence's traveling teddy

Hi Kadence and Fellow Grade Three Classmates!!! This is my last travel report, as I am in the car today driving from Calgary to Saskatoon. I have enjoyed the last seven months which was filled with much travel. Other than places in Canada, I visited six different countries, flew on six different airlines, and enjoyed food from many cultures. In Canada, I visited three provinces, several cities and many towns. It has been a lot fun and after all these experiences I am very happy to return to Saskatchewan. I left my heart in Saskatoon!! I...

May 10, 2013 - Art and Goodbye Chicago

Our last day in Chicago. The rain stopped overnight but the city lived up to its nickname of "The Windy City" and that wind was brutally cold! The perfect day to spend at a museum. So after another Eggsperience breakfast, we headed to the Art Institute of Chicago. Our approach to museums is to use a guide book to choose the 10-20 things we most want to see and then go on a treasure hunt using the museum map and guide. This is a wonderful museum with great Impressionist, early American, Andean, African and Asian exhibits. We saw some well...

Mar 5, 2013 - Time up to the flight to Ontario!!

Hi Friends! We had a busy few weeks up to the first weekend of March at the Museum. I was training a few new people to work reception while I was going away. Plus we were gearing up for the huge annual Tracks & Trains weekend (last weekend of February). We have the North Island Railroaders come in to set up their model trains for all the hundreds of people to come in to see. This is a very popular weekend at the Museum. The following weekend we had our annual Fundraising Book Sale…a huge weekend with hundreds of people coming in to buy the...

Dec 29, 2012 - A Busy Christmas Season

Christmas in Calgary this year. After a yummy Christmas Eve dinner of Chinese food at Cam and Michele's, we stayed at Pam's Dad's place, the location of the family festivities. Christmas Day started with coffee and Baily's and then we dug into our stockings and gifts. That was followed by a yummy brunch and our annual Christmas Day run. A bit chilly at -22C but we bundled up and it turned out to be a beautiful day for a run through Glenmore Park. Christmas dinner was turkey with all the trimmings. All in all, a day full of excess, just like...

Dec 25, 2012 - Canadian Christmas

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD This was our first Christmas in Canada in seven years, and it seemed that Mother Nature wanted us to be sure to experience what we’d been missing all those years. We arrived to a cold blast that left all the trees coated with a layer of hoar frost, creating a winter wonderland. However, true to form, within a few days, Calgary experienced a ‘Chinook’ (a warm wind that can change temperatures 30 degrees C in a matter of hours). Anil and I worked together to clear Raj and Vy’s huge driveway of snow. It was cold and...

Oct 11, 2012 - Clumsy's travels - Kadence's traveling teddy

My name is Clumsy and I have started on my journey. I started the journey by driving from Saskatoon to Emma Lake. Dave, Glenna and I drove from Emma Lake to Calgary this week. It was a long drive for me and we are resting in Calgary for a few days. I like Calgary but we have snow on the ground today. It is very cold for me. I will write again soon and tell you where I am. Travelling is a...

October 10/ 2012 Only in a Canadian airport can one find antifreeze being sold at one of the kiosks /book stores /throws arms up in air I drove Suukyi to AllCargo Expres in Vancouver. I left the Loops at 8:30am. It was a little chilli. The coldest it got was 5.5c. And that only lasted for a few minutes on the Kamloops/Merritt leg. Other than that it was anywhere from 7 – 18c. I wore long johns and my rain gear. I also put on my big over mits. I arrived in Vancouver about 2:30 and quickly went Coop to buy some cloths line/mosquito net cord,...

Oct 6, 2012 - The Trip Begins

Well, we're on the first leg of our trip. Jo, Paige and Bella drove us to the airport, said our goodbyes and proceeded to check our luggage etc. Joanne and I had nice relaxing lunch at the Airport White Spot before boarding our flight to Calgary, Alberta. Dash 8-300, although a fast/efficient plane, the air turbulance was a bit of an eye opener. However, we landed safely and now relaxing at Starbucks while we wait for out 6:45 flight to Montreal. Enjoy your evening and will keep you all posted as air travel continues. Til next time Joanne...

Sep 18, 2012 - Waiting for Mail & Calgary

We forwarded our mail from Livingston, TX on September 7 via International Priority Mail. It still has not arrived and no one knows where it is. We have decided to give it until Thursday morning. If it hasn’t arrived by then, we will ask them to “return to sender.” I expect that it will make it back to Texas before Christmas at which time they can forward it to Florida where Sue can enjoy her birthday cards! Anyway, since we are on hold in Cochrane, Sue decided to attend a Weightwatchers meeting in Calgary. We drove to the church where the...

Aug 31, 2012 - Adios Calgary

@@@@@@@ Once again the summer has flown by. We have been back in Canada for three months (June, July and August) and this time we are setting off on a three-month trip (September, October and November) so I have a better sense of how quickly the time will pass. For the first time in seven years, we will be home in Canada with our extended family for Christmas. We will gather in Calgary, at Raj and Vy’s new home, big enough to accommodate many of us. Vy and Raj have been together for five years, married for the past three, so we’ve never had...
