Jun 8, 2017 - Banff/Lake Louise

Banff. We arrived in Great Falls, MT and met up with Dave and Cara Steward and a few days later Ron and Mary Baker arrived from Florida to join us. We spent several days here getting organized, resupplying and getting work done on our RV's. We headed out to Glacier National Park on June 3rd. Stayed at a campground on the East side of the park in St. Mary on the Blackfeet Nation reservation. We had a beautiful view from our campsite of the St. Mary Lakes and some of the mountains of Glacier National Park. Unfortunately, most of the road...

May 19, 2017 - Day 07 || Banff

We woke up shortly after 5am to get ready for the 6am bus, only to come downstairs and discover that our bus was delayed for an hour. I promptly took off my glasses, curled up in the lobby chair, and went back to sleep. Mr. Davis had prepared us to expect cold weather in the mountains. Since I didn't have room for a winter jacket in my carry-on bag, I layered a raincoat on top of a flannel shirt on top of a sweater, and this worked extremely well, and was versatile by removing layers. I was very thankful for this because the bus was very...

"America but cold"

Aug 30, 2016 - Banff

What a day! We began early with a gondola ride to the top of Summit Mountain. Somewhere around 7500 ft. Views were spectacular but the pictures show the influence of little sun, shadows, some morning haze, etc. But that does not detract from the wonder of it all. We then went to the Parks Dept area and the Cascade Gardens. Beautiful flowers, all hand planted and meticulously maintain. But the were doing major cleaning and redesign of the fountain areas. Then it was on to the Bow River Falls and the pictures really does not show the beauty...

Aug 30, 2016 - Banff, Alberta

Well, another wonderful day. The weather was a little warmer today, getting up to around 75 degrees. We started the day by driving the Bow Valley Parkway. Then we rode the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulfur Mountain. We did a lake cruise on Lake Minnewanka, seeing mountain goat and an eagle. We drove to Bow Falls, doing a little hike to the top of the viewing area. A fun filled day. We did get back to our condo a little earlier this evening so we played Hand & Foot with Dale & Kim. It can't get much better than this. Tomorrow we head to...

Rocky Mountains-2016

Aug 29, 2016 - Banff National Park

On our way to Banff National Park we drove thru Pinchers Creek, interesting only because it was a town that was heading toward being a ghost town when remaining townspeople heard about a contest where they could win money to use for the betterment of the town. They cleaned up the area buildings and yards. They painted a few wall murals, basically spiffed up the place. They won the provincial contest and used the funds to build a community center and library and today it is a thriving small town. Our first stop is at Bar U Ranch where we...

Jul 21, 2016 - Lake Minnewanka, Banff National Park

Today we got together with Jack and Robyn for a relaxing boat ride on Lake Minnewanka at Banff, Alberta. On Saturday morning, our friends will be leaving for home and we will be hitting the road, but, at this point we do not know to where. We have had a fabulous time with our friends and hate to see them go.

Jul 17, 2016 - Banff Gondola

Our friends arrived from Atlanta over the weekend and luckily the weather changed from rain to sunshine. So, we were all off to explore the Canadian Rockies. The first thing that we did was to take the Banff Gondola to the top of one of the surrounding mountains to have a good look see. In the pictures, you can see the Trans Canada Highway snaking through the mountains on the left side of the picture. In the center, you can see Tunnel Mountain and the town of Banff off to the left of the base of the mountain. To the right of Tunnel Mountain...

Jul 14, 2016 - Calgary Stampede

Today, we got to the Calgary Stampede, the granddaddy of all rodeo's. Not knowing really what to expect, it was surprising to see how large the grounds actually are. The Calgary Stampede, I would say, is an event that is a whole lot more than just a rodeo. The grounds are covered with rides, games of chance and tons of food vendors. Once we got seated in the grandstands to actually watch a rodeo, the pomp and ceremony started and the crowd came alive. Rodeo contestants come from all over North America and some from other countries to...

Jul 14, 2016 - Travel to Banff, Alberta, Canada

July 15-16 Short drive from Calgary to Banff, only 77 miles to Banff Tunnel Mountain Trailer Park, in the YoHo National Park. We are here for 3 days. On the second day, we had a 10 hour tour of the Banff, and Lake Louise area. We saw the “spiral railway tunnels”, which is a double spiral loop train track, that goes underground to reduce the grade for the trains. You see the train drive over itself. On one road, there were 2 switch backs where the bus driver had to back up the hill to go see the Takakkaw Falls. The road is Really Scarry. The...

Jul 12, 2016 - Lake Agnes Tea House

Today, we decided to visit the Chateau at Lake Louise. Being new, uninformed types, we had decided on Sunday that we would take a leisurely drive from Banff to Lake Louise via what we were told was the scenic Bow Valley Parkway. The parkway was scenic if you like driving on a two lane road that is lined on either side by a dense growth of pine trees. It ran parallel to the Bow River, but, you would never know that. I wonder who it was that told us that it was a scenic drive. When we finally got to the entrance to the Lake Louise area, there...

Jul 9, 2016 - Banff, Aberta, Canada

Arrived at Banff National Park today. Just getting settled in at Tunnel Mountain, Village II Trailer Court. The town of Banff, Alberta is located within the Banff National Park. The campground that we are staying at is part of Parks Canada and is located just outside of the town of Banff. The name of campground is Tunnel Mountain, where it is located, but there is no tunnel. It seems that originally when the railroad did a survey, they were going to tunnel through the mountain. A later survey showed that they could easily go around the...

Jun 12, 2016 - Rewinding Calgary

I woke up late this morning after getting some good sleep. I oddly dreamed that I got to sing with Adam and Jason Crabb, which would have been a dream come true. I would have won either way because Calgary is a dream come true. Although we will not be visiting Banff again, the Rockies are still in clear sight from the heart of the town. I have thought at time that the designer of the Swiss Miss box got his inspiration from the snowcapped Rockies. Since today was Sunday, a group of us got together to get an inside look on how church is held...
