Once again braving the heat, Waz and I set out to see some of the less sobering sights of Phnom Penh. ... Unfortunately when we returned to Phnom Penh a few days later, the same bloke approached each of us seperately with the same story, though he put on a British accent for me, obviously having pegged me for a Brit from my slightly nicer evening wear as opposed to my fisherman's pants day wear, lol. ... After meeting Warrick yesterday at Phnom Penh airport yesterday afternoon, we were keen to head off and soak up some of the culture of Cambodia. ... It is incredible to think that on 17 April 1975, the entire population of Phnom Penh was relocated by the Khmer Rouge to the countryside, to assist with the growing of rice. ... After the laidback pace of Laos, where life still largely moves according to the rhythms of rural life, Cambodia was a bit of a shock. Consequently I didn't have the courage to venture out on my own at night, as Phnom Penh is known for muggings and drive-by bag snatching. ... I think I interpreted correctly what that meant, so stayed safetly ensconced in my hotel! I decided to head to Battambang the next day, as a friend is meeting me in Phnom Penh in a couple of days and I didn't want to have seen all the sights already. ...
