Jun 14, 2013 - Beautiful Kep and its violent past.
Hi Folks What a gem of a place is Kep. The guide book says nothing much to do here but I could spend weeks photographing, everything from lovely people, market life, seaside and fantastic old villas ruined during the Khmer Rouge period. I found another gem of a tuk tuk driver named Lim who was my guide for much of the day. We set off along the coast road after picking me up from the hotel at about 9.00 and stopped at various points to take pics. Several touristy pics to start, just to give a flavour of the place. They seem to have spent a...

Jun 13, 2013 - Travelling to Kep (on the South Coast)
Good evening from Kep on the South Coast. The day started with a bit of a hassle. I always wake early so didn’t use alarm. When I did wake up it was 7.15. 1.5 hours later than I wanted! I was shaved and in and out of the shower in no time. Packing is usually one of my good points but I sort of tipped everything in and when case was totally full and I was struggling with the zipper, there were still lots unpacked. Luckily I took a spare rucksack which came into its own So that left me with one big case, my heavy camera rucksack and my spare....

Jan 9, 2013 - The motorcycle diaries - Cambodian version
Today I took my trusty bike aka "lil' bullet" for a ride along the coast to the beachside town of Kep. Kep is affectionately known to the ex pats in Kampot as being a bit gay and pretty much a rubbish place to visit. Then again the same ex pats call backpackers snails, when they have a pack on, slugs when they don't and pregnant snails when they have a pack on front and back! So off i rose on lil' bullet across some pretty bad road. its easy to navigate in this part of the world. Most of the roundabouts have statues on it, so its straight...

Jan 29, 2009 - Kep, Cambodia
Kep Kep was once the playground for the rich and famous in Cambodia, just along the coast from Sihanoukville. However it was severly ravaged by Pol Pot during the war, and you can clearly see the bullet holes in the walls of the building. We stayed in a nice place, backing onto the hills, in smart bungalows on stilts. Originally we planned to stay once night in Kampot, but didn't like the look of it as we passed through on the minibus! Spent a few days in Kep, 3 in total and hired a motorbike to explore with. You need transportation as its...

This village was very in "vogue" before the trouble began in Cambodia. There're plenty af abandoned villa's next to the shore. It...

We were surprised at what a small and spread out town Kep is, there really is very little to see here and the beaches are it must be said a little disappointing. It was clear as soon as we arrived that we were going to spend no more than one night here. After booking ourselves into a guesthouse we had some seafood for which Kep is famous and then did very little else until the evening and ended up at a Lonely Planet recommended restaurant called Riel which rather curiously quoted higher prices in dollars than in the local riel currency, its...

Jan 20, 2008 - South to the Coast
We have made our way to a lovely site on the south coast. People have remarked on days without an update. When we were in the north in Banlung we had power from 6 pm to 6 am so that we had lights and a fan. No power equals no internet except after 6 pm. VERY slow connection when we had it at all. Where we are now we have power but no internet. Ruth and i took a tuk tuk 40 minutes each way to a larger town, Kampot, to use the internet and get a couple of things. Peggy

Basic...

Jan 21, 2007 - Cambodja zonder TomTom

Oct 9, 2006 - Takeo homestay
We drive from Phnom Penh in the afternoon to a homestay in the province of Takeo. Here, we're staying in a simple couple of huts with the head of the local village. Its a nice experience, very similar to the stay with the hilltribes in Thailand. Our hosts make us very welcome; we play with the kids at their keepy-uppy game; wander around the local market, where the kids are absolutely fascinated by a group of westerners (one gruop fo kids say hello about a thousand times); and we are treated to a nice homecooked meal of chicken soup, rice...

Polo and I went to Kep for the afternoon and toured the area. In the process, we got attacked by a cow. We were taking pictures at monuments and we heard about an abondoned booat launch that made an excellent picture. I was on a very big loud dirtbike at the time and he thought I was trying to scam on his ladies. One minute I'm roaring accross a wet feild to the boat launch next minute I hear a blood curdling scream from Polo and slaps across my back. I turn around only to see a cow madly gallopingin our direction, horns pointed straight at...
