September 9 Bansko On our way to Bansko, we stopped to visit the stunning Rila Monastery. This World Heritage-listed site is the largest, holiest and most impressive of Bulgaria's monasteries and is hidden away in a narrow and forested valley. Founded in 927 by Ivan Rilski, a leader of a monastic colony of hermits, the monastery helped keep Bulgarian spiritual and social life alive during centuries of Turkish rule. Jun 24, 2008 - Hollywood in Romania

I forgot to mention two things-- Owen Wilson was in Bucharest on the same night that we were. A guy in the group was at a cafe, saw him walking down the street and managed to get a picture of him. Some people at another table yelled "Owen!", and he turned and gave a peace sign. Sooo disappointed that I wasn't there for that. Another small note, I was just told by a Turkish guy that I met that in the beginning of the movie, Borat, he shows a town and says that it is his town. That is where we stayed!
