Mar 2, 2010 - Will Something Please Bite Me?
We went to the Pantanal, a huge open swampland about the size of France, roughly 200,000 square km. ... Anyway, the Pantanal is a real ecological niche and has things that you can’t find anywhere else. ... Saw loads of birds – the place is a bird haven – including parrots, toucans (the most well endowed beaks of any feathered fiend), Kingfishers, Giant red necked storks – (known locally as Jabaru and are the symbol of the Pantanal) and dozens of other bright and exotic birds that I (shamefully – Dad, I’m sorry!) had no idea what they are but looked jolly nice. ... Anyway, it was a good experience and afterwards we moved down to a place on the outskirts of the Pantanal, called Bonito. ...

Feb 7, 2010 - Ilha Grande
So we have now moved on from Paraty to Ilha Grande. ... Also for those of you that don´t know, clever little Georgie managed to STUPIDLY leave her iPod on the bus on the way to Paraty, so thinking about that just turned my mood from bad to worse! On the 5th (2 days ago) we got a bus from Paraty to a port called Angra (where I got stung AGAIN by a wasp - twice in one bloody week!) and then a ferry from ANgra to Ilha Grande. ... We immediately fell in love - how can you not when you are encountered my gleaming white beaches, an island with no cars, and just the most relaxed vibe.So we have now moved on from Paraty to Ilha Grande. ... Feb 2, 2010 - Paraty
Yesterday we left Florianopolis and headed on an overnight bus to a Brasilian coastal town called Paraty. ... Florianopolis was AMAZING! We spent our days relaxing on the beach, and our nights going out - not the most cultural of activites admittedly, but we finally got a chance to tone down the translucency of our skin! And met a big collection of wicked people along the way - the majority of whom were Australian, who seem to be EVERYWHERE in South America.Yesterday we left Florianopolis and headed on an overnight bus to a Brasilian coastal town called Paraty. ...
