Nov 20, 2017 - Rio de Janeiro

Rio is special. The family couldn’t synthesize into a word: buzzing, people, energetic, smiles, alive, beaches, lights, music, samba – the city would be perfect for a word picture. They call it the “Ciudade maravilhosa” – no translation required. Complete juxtapose for first 4 weeks of trip. We loved it. The city is sandwiched between lush jungle and idyllic beaches – think “The Beach”. Volcanic outcrops that thrust their bulk the height of table mountain provides a spectacular background for this frantic city of 6m plus. Cristo Redentor...

Jan 15, 2017 - Rio de Janeiro ~ Day 2

Woke up at 7 am for we had a tour at 7:30. This would be another exhausting day. We ate our complimentary hotel breakfast consisting of many pastries and juices. It was actually pretty good! We were ready for our tour at 7:30 but our tour guide hadn't shown up until about 7:45. No big deal. We then took a shuttle to finally see Christ de Redeemer for our first time! It was extremely crowded for it was a weekend but the statue was spectacular! There was some forecast when we saw it, however, it saved us from the sweltering heat of the day....

Jan 14, 2017 - Rio de Janeiro ~ Day 1

We landed around 7:30 am at the Rio de Janeiro-Galeão International Airport. We then took a taxi to the Windsor Excelsior Hotel, where we would be staying for the following three nights. After checking in at around 9:30, we had about an hour window isolated for rest, before we would have to leave for our food tour at 11. We were exhausted and restless, yet we felt obligated to make the most of our little time here in Rio. The tour we took began at a street market. Throughout the street market, we drank sugar cane, tapioca treats, and a...

Nov 19, 2016 - Rio de Janeiro

2Wednesday November 16 A day spent travelling from Iguazu to Rio de Janeiro by plane and hanging around waiting. By the time we arrived at our hotel, (Hotel America Copacobana) it was almost time to go to dinner at Cafe Garota de Ipanema. This is where Antônio Carlos Jobin who composed one of my favourite songs, The Girl From Ipanema, used to frequent. Had a very good meal here. Servings are huge so sharing is the go. Rio is the second largest city in Brazil after San Paolo. It was founded by the Portuguese in 1565. Brasilia is the...

Feb 19, 2016 - Rio - Fête à Ro

Bonjour!
