Today we took a trip from our hostel (again camping in tents and again quite a nice one) to take a look at these impressive waterfalls. Getting from Brazil to Argentina via the local service bus was easier than expected. The bus did leave us at passport control and disappear to the Argentinian side with just the locals, fortunately we only had to wait 20mins for the next one......but we had to pay again! Upon arriving in Brazil and Foz do Iguacu the language barrier soon became clear! We had gotten quite used to Spanish and had picked up enough to be getting along quite comfortably but now we had to deal with Portuguese! Neither of us knew any Portuguese words which made it a bit of a challenge. We survived the bus journey from Rio to Iguaçu, which ended up being 23 hours, followed by a further 2 local buses to get to the hostel. The bus was freezing so a friendly Brazilian lent us her baby daughters extra blanket. We have today visited the Iguassu falls. This was a tremendous experience and we were very impressed by the falls. They are gigantic. It is almost impossible to describe the sheer size of them - something that really should be experienced. Our day started at the bus terminal in Foz do Iguazu when we arrived there at 9.30 in the morning. We had to change bus at around 7.30 in the morning at some other place in Brazil - we even failed to notice where it was. The trip here was very enjoyable and we had really good sleep on the buses....

We are today leaving Bonito and traveling to Foz de Iguazu in southern Brazil. Our bus departs at 14.30 and we won’t get to Foz until mid-day tomorrow. Here are some pictures from the national park on the Brazilian side of the River Paraná. Here you get an overview of the falls as a whole, to complement the up-close-and-personal experience on the Argentinian side. The fact that Iguazu falls can be seen from two different countries (see the maps accessed from the home page) gives me a good excuse to make another entry from our second look at them a couple of days after the first- this is such a great place it deserves two blogs.

After a shitty 2 day transit we arrived in Foz do Iguaçu almost unscathed. Our brilliant truck driver Suse narrowly avoided joining in on a car accident and came rather close to running straight over the top of a little black car. Today we headed for Brazil, we caught a bus from the terminal around 9.30am. This took us to the border to get our exit stamps from Argentina, and then on to the Brazilian imigration office where it left us to get our entry stamps. We then waited a while before getting the 2nd bus to come along as the one before was rammed full. August 5-8 We spend the next 3 days in the south of Brazil at a city called Foz do Iguacu (Iguacu Falls). One word to describe this area is nothing short of "Spectacular". Days 19 & 20 Through a series of events, sold out and broken down busses, we made it to Foz do Iguacu - the Brazilian city that serves as both the border town to Argentina and Paraguay and hosts the local side of the amazing Iguazu Falls (275 falls up to 80m high, along 2.7km for those that are interested).
