Sigo en las montañas, en Minas Gerais. Llegúe a São João del Rei, un pueblo sin mucho de especial, minero tambien, desde donde se visita Tiradentes, mi verdadero destino. Hoy tomé el bus a Tiradentes, otro pueblo antiguamente minero, muy bien preservado, aunque ahora un poco comercializado principalmente con tiendas de muebles y artesanias. Es muy bonito, todo chico, rustico, entre las montañas. Mil sitios bonitos para comer, iglesias, tiendas, carretas a caballo, etc. Es perfecto para un paseo familiar al campo... Jul 16, 2005 - São João del Rei

We made it out of Rio!! It was a close one though as the bus we were on was involved in a crash with a car on the way to São João do Rei (SJDR). Luckily no-one was injured at all, although the car involved was a total right-off. The bus had nothing more than a small scratch on one side of it and was able to complete the journey once everything had been sorted out. SJDR was a welcome relief after being in such a large city as Rio for so long. A smallish town with cobbled streets, lots of churches etc. By no intentional planning at all we...

Stu and Liz On Tour

Apr 5, 2005 - Sao Tome das Letras (otherwise known as Hippieville, Mysticland)

On first approach in the bus, it looked like this little town we had read so much about had not even been built yet/did'nt exist (another hooray for the ever accurate Lonely Planet) or as Jo put it was so incredibly magical that perhaps we could'nt see it! What we saw were piles and piles of white Quartzite stone quarries everywhere and not much else! With only one bus a day in and out we were a little concerned about what a night in a quarry pit may entail! Anyway on further investigation we did in actual fact find a little town and some...
