It wasn't easy to get out there, nor to return, but we were glad that we made a trip into the Pantanal. The Pantanal is an immense wetlands area that encompasses land in Brazil, Paraguay, and Bolivia. Estimates of the size of the area range between 140,000 km2 (54,000 square miles) and 210,000 km2 (81,000 square miles). We didn't see too much of it, but what we saw was quite impressive. It is incredibly rich with wildlife - we read that there are are over 650 species of birds and between 10 and 35 million alligators living in the Pantanal....
