We left Brazil last night and are now headed across the Atlantic toward Africa. On the first day in Salvador, I went on a city tour which was nice and then to a welcome reception that evening. ... First we went to Isla dos Frados which is an almost uninhabited island about an hour and a half boat ride from Salvador. ... So after all that action we decided to lay on the beach for a few days in Jericoacoara - one of brazil~s famed northeastern beaches. The most delicious thing here was cheese (haloumi like) on a stick melted over hot coals and sprinkled with oregano - mmm divine! Olinda was a very cute little place - cobbled, pastels, etc etc Next onto Salvador. ... A very cool place - again with the cobbled streets, pastel painted buildings and ben~s favourite - the colonial architecture - really make sure you ask him about it when we get back - he loves seeing it, loves talking about it, just can~t get enough of it really.So after all that action we decided to lay on the beach for a few days in Jericoacoara - one of brazil~s famed northeastern beaches. August 8-10 One word to describe Salvador would have to be "Lively". ... Salvador (nickname: Bahia)is a colonial old town with a ton of gilded churches, brightly colored buildings, bobblestone streets and is the corner stone of Afro-Brazilian culture. ... Heute nacht hat es so richtig dolle geregnet, und es ist 10 Grad kaelter, so dass wir tatsaechlich eine lange Hose anziehen. Der Flug war erwartungsgemaess langweilig, nur der Anflug nach Salvador war toll: die Stadt liegt in einer huegeligen Gegend, und im Stadtgebiet sind sie ueberzogen von einer Schicht aus roten Haeusern, und hier und da gucken ein paar weisse Appartmenthochhaeuser raus. ...
